If guys feel they need to spend it to be competitive knock yourselves out.

You just addressed the top third of every regional race, and the top 3/4 of every national race. :(

Thats not the point. This rule will help guys like me who just bought a lower mileage engine to replace my 177,000 mile mule. I would have much rather rebuilt my old motor and then maybe i could have slapped a better head on that overbored bottom end. Instead i was pretty much forced to buy a motor that I know nothing about because I cant afford a crate motor. The guys at the front will always spend their money for every last hp they can find. Lets think about the MAJORITY of the people in this class and not worry what the guys in the front are going to do.

Yep, and that might be a conservative estimate. Racers can't be made not to spend money. In the big picture that grand for what is a minimal improvement (or any) isn't that much for the guys that dump an ass load of cash into their programs. If not for that they'd spend it on something else. If a guy that doesn't really have the cash is still convinced he needs it that's his problem, not mine. On a 120 hp car that's less than half a percent improvement, best case. It's good for the guys like Dave L or that lower half that can't afford all the bells and whistles. I think Jim's got the right idea. After a while people will see that's it not that big a deal and perhaps eventually down the road remove the weight.

First, I'm not arguing against the new rule -- I'm still on the fence. But I begin to wonder about just where the majority is these days. For most of the time I've raced, my local area was one of the least pro-oriented in the country, and most cars had original, crate, or home-built motors. Now it seems that except for the newbies, a pro motor is pretty much expected. It's one of the reasons I'll be getting out before long (although not the biggest one). My point is that with a bigger percentage of folks feeling like they have to be on the arms-race treadmill, what this rule may do is to make that treadmill even more expensive.

My own "program" has always been small-time, and I generally side with the little guys. But if the class is getting to where there aren't very many little guys left, maybe tilting toward the "go big" guys is inevitable. I dunno.

Most competitive National guys, aren't worried about saving a block, they will just get a new one. But they will exploit the .010 overbore for certain. It really won't cost you anything, when it comes time to rebuild your engine, just have it done. Weight is the only thing to decide if you want to add weight. I think adding a weight penalty for awhile. Anyone who is rebuilding will probably have the overbore, the ones who will be penalized are those that buy crate motor, for the minor HP loss to an overbored engines.

0.010" overbore, no questions asked, ok with me. I have a 1.6L block that's just barely out of tolerance to be honed (for reuse with stock size pistons) and would have to be scrapped (or sleeved). With the allowance to bore 0.010", it could be used. I think it's worth the trade off but not if there are ruled implications (like an added weight requirement). That would be too much of a pain to enforce.

I'd write but I don't think they'd honor my NASA membership... I'l likely join the LV region as they have an active solo program, though no club racing. Seems like a cheap way to shake down the car and the folks that run it seem like a good bunch. I guess my question would be what would happen if I went to Cal Club, where they do club race to get a novice permit when Vegas is my region of record. I'd reckon it would be OK though I'll ask them here when I go see them at the next event.

Letter sent.

I can't decide what I find more unbelievable. That the CRB is suggesting overboring as a way to reduce costs or that so many on here believe that.

Funny how sleeving the block was supposed to reduce costs. And not increase power (disparity). How did that work out?
My original block had 120,000 miles, the hone marks were still visible on the cylinder walls.
Tell me, are there more stock pistons in existence or oversized ones?

OK Next up

1 Head thickness. Minimum .025 head cut.

2 Exhaust Header Open iten as stock ones for 1.6 are all fatigued.

3 Valve seat. Open item as seat lands are getting fatigued. Seat can now be "Blended" to the manifold gasket surface to make up for unreliable factory casting.

4 Weight 1.6 2000 lbs as eveyone can make that weight.

5 Restrictor Lets add one to the 1.6 just for parity and make it an open item for all 1.8's

6 General change to the GCR Racing room not required...just move where you want and do not look for other competitors. Moving over on someone is now Mandatory.

I'm now a member but don't yet have the license. Where should these letters go? I poked around the member area of the site and didn't quite know where it should go.
