Does it have a function on our 1.6 car while racing. Just found ours unplugged, car still ran

On a 1.6 the TPS closes one set of contacts to tell the ECU it's at idle, and a different set to tell the ECU it's at WOT. The rest of the time both contacts are open, just like being unplugged. It's never been clear to me what the ECU does with that info, but somebody probably knows. Or at least thinks they do. ;)

I know I tried to tap it to get a voltage output and it made the car barely run.
