If you look at the bottom of forum posts and other bits on the site you will see small plus and minus signs. Purple can use these to vote on each post..good or bad. Your reputation is the sum of the votes for all your content.
I think I saw your post in the "how to be a better driver" topic got one minus vote.
I think mike posted a blog entry..or a forum tip on this. I'm on my phone so..to much pain to go find it.

I found it and think I figured that was it. Wonder what it was? Surely not my joke about OCD? Wow, kinda stings a little when someone votes you down... I am going to go cry in the corner a little bit (kidding). Are their penalties for being voted down?
I might have the lowest reputation out of everyone on the forum at the moment... is there an award for that? The "No Love" award? Or maybe it can change its name each time it changes hands. Today it will be the Davecarama award... (I say as I bash my head against the wall).
