Is it possible to break-in new tires on a dyno or other roller type device? If not, any suggestions other than doing it at a track?
Thanks

Essentially that is what Tire Rack does with their "heat Cycling".
They mount the tire, spin the asswmbly on a drum under pressure and angling it a bit to get heat into the carcass.
You cannot angle very well on a chassis dyno.

Heat Cycling a tire is more than just heating it up. It involves stretching and relaxing the rubber of the tire also, and then once the tire cools, the actual molecular structure changes a bit. The tire is then generally, not QUITE as fast in general (maybe though on some surfaces)as a sticker tire, but it adds a huge factor of longevity, and performance stability, to the life of the tire.
Pat, did you see my post on the "huge" discussion about the tires? If not, I will sort of replicate it here...
1. Find a friend with a street legal Miata, or MR2 (both use the same rims) or even some Hondas...but I don't like FWD for this.
2. Take that car and your tires to a large parking lot of some kind
3. At a slow speed do 8 tight circles one way, then 8 the other
4. Increase speed and do the circles again
5. Increase speed a bit more and repeat again (so a total of 24 one way, 24 another)
6. Get out of car and try not to fall down from going in circles...check the temp on the tires. if they are hot, you are done...if not, repeat step 5
7. Thank your friend for the car and buy them some beer.
