Thank you to everybody who have expressed their concern and best wishes on David's behalf.
Here is the latest official status on his condition:
On Sunday, 10/2, during the Group 7 race, David was involved in a serious crash in the the Corkscrew at Laguna. He lost control and the car hit a wall at speed and ricocheted across the track (per information gleaned from witnesses). All who were involved in that race could probably see the extensive damage to the left side of the car, off at driver's right at the approach to turn 9. After initial stabilization by the paramedics on-scene, he was air-lifted to Santa Clara Valley Med Center in San Jose, where he was admitted to the Surgical ICU under the care of the Trauma and Neurosurgical services. David sustained serious injuries to his head, chest, neck and hip. he is presently in a medically stable condition, but remains unconscious. He appears able to move all his extremities normally.
Your concern, best wishes and prayers are much appreciated by all those close to David. We are all hoping for a quick and complete recovery.

I have also been thinking about Dave all day.
Hope he is able to soon know how much he is in all of our thoughts and prayers.

Thoughts & prayers for David's quick recovery. Although I don't know him well, his contagious enthusiasm is one of the many things that make racing great.

As a new competitor to the series I do not know David other than seeing him in the car at the track.
I would like to add my thoughts and prayers as this has been on my mind since I saw the car at the track.
Get well soon David.

Thanks for keeping us posted Al. Please give Dave & his family my best wishes.
Probably a bit early to ask but please let us know if/when he can receive visitors.

I don't know Dave, and don't live in the region, and probably will never meet him or anyone else up there in person....but, we are a small community (internet based though it may be) and should all stick together, especially so in situations like this. This has to be as hard or harder on the family and close friends, too.
So, tell them a random person on the interwebs sends his best for a speedy and complete recovery for Dave, and whatever strength is needed to the family and close friends.

Tuesday, 10/4 update:
David seems to be doing much better today. He is waking from his unconscious state and is able to communicate using hand gestures. He is off the breathing machine and no longer has a tube in his chest to inflate his lung.
He is making great progress, but still not out of the woods.
His family has requested that he not get visitors until he has been transferred out of the ICU, which will most likely be Friday.
