Either suck or don't go. "Ruboffs." ?

Well, I'm definitely not going now.

Just curious, do all class winners receive a full tear down, or just SM?

Since the ARRC by GRM is widely viewed as the Championship event for non-Runoffs classes we take a closer look at the classes not eligible to attend the Runoffs. I do know all the IT classes and GTA for sure received more than a "roll across the scales" look with varying degrees of disassembly involved. The SM Community has also delivered the message they want a more comprehensive Impound procedure at ALL races (even to the point of considering the reinstatement of the $10/race Compliance Fee) and Jim Creighton volunteered to head up that effort this past weekend, so SM was also "looked at" more closely even though it's also a Runoffs class.

If you want to win the National Championship in SM you need to participate at the Runoffs. If you want to compete in SM against a larger (and perhaps deeper) field than showed up at Road America, you need to come to the ARRC by GRM at Road Atlanta each November. If you plan to do well at either one, be prepared to demonstrate you have legal car.

If you sign-up to attend the ARRC, you know going in that if you do well there should be a tear down. Don't like it? Either suck or don't go. :) To many of us, the compliance checks are a bit part of the allure for the ARRC especially to those who don't attend the Ruboffs.

Listen, I suck as a mechanic, don't have a crew but can at least take stuff off, put it in a box and worry about it when I get back home. I've also never found a lack of fellow competitors who'd be willing to take my car apart! lol Fortunately they're also the same people who would help me put it together again.

In 2010, the ARRC compliance checks were lacking and that took away from the credibility of the event. Same deal would be true of the Runoffs if compliance checks did not happen. Just a regional? For regional racers especially in the IT world, this is one of the highly regarded events since IT can't participate in the Runoffs.

Hopefully no other cars besides the first and second place ones were collected in the "impressive" first lap incident.

Either you were not at the ARRC last year or you just don't know what you are talking about. I won the ARRC last year and my engine was ripped all the way down to the block, valves pulled out, cams checked, whistled, diff checked, etc, etc, etc. I am glad you pointed out that tech was lacking in 2010 and it took away the credibility of my win; maybe I will give my trophy back.
Thanks!

Congrats to Danny, Todd, and Kevin on some fine drives this past weekend. I got to watch plenty of the races and you guys were flying.

We brought our "new" 1997 car to the race with high hopes and it was worth the effort. I can't wait to run under the new rules and see how the early cars stack up.

My weekend was started off well with good qualifying efforts in SM and ProIT. We worked really hard on the race setup and I wish I would have had the opportunity to put that to the test. The 5th gear gave out on the opening lap and that was the longest yellow flag I've ever been a part of. Knowing 5th was gone, I wanted to see how bad it was banging the limiter down the back straight. After one lap I realized it wasn't worth popping my brand new GRE "Texas Cannonball" signature series engine to fight for every position as I went backwards.

Thanks to Ed Gilfus and my dad for keeping me running all week. Thanks to PhillipsRacePrep for the support on and off the track, Carbotech Brakes for giving me the confidence into 10A, MiataCage, SP Induction, and OPM for the food and parts.

Overall, yes, tech was much less at the '10 ARRC event than in the past. Maybe they were too busy tearing your car down so weren't able to do the same compliance checks in other classes. :) So yes, in that respect it does take crediblity away from the event as a whole. This year I know things were stepped up as a whole, again, not looking at just one class cause there are others running at the ARRC. ;)

And although you took it personally, my feeling towards the compliance checks wasn't meant to detract from your or anyone else's win at the 2010 ARRC even if they just rolled the car across the scales. There was grumbling about tear downs (which I do agree isn't fun) but think it's one aspect which makes this race weekend stand out and attracts many top drivers to it.

Actually there was more tech throughout the field last year then there was this year. Besides tearing down the top 3 in 2010 they also randomly checked fuel, plates, and weights throughout the weekend.

Yeah but this year they painted plates, and measured hood and top gaps :whistling: All of which should be checked EVERY weekend!

Not sure on "significant" But all that air that enters the cabin is caught by the top and back glass like a parachute.. If you allow it to exit under the top with no seal it has to help... How much? :scratchchin:

Same goes for rear bumpers.. Some people have ejecto-o-matic rear covers :glare:

I've wondered why I see some guys with ill fitting tops. I never thought of it that way. lol Also, I've never thought about their being a spec for hood gaps. I will have to double check those.

The top deal goes way back before SM, when any car with a rear hatch, like a Camaro, would have the rubber removed and the hatch very loose on the hatch pin. At speed the hatch would lift and let all the air would flow through the car.
