Hey, great to have the live timing and scoring for this event. Congratulations to team Tom! Good luck this weekend, it should be great weather.

The race was a blast, especially getting my first win! I qualified 7th overall on the grid on season points but Tom F missed the start. Ever have that sinking feeling while you are sitting in the pits and you see your race group leave the grid? 8:30 am on a cold Atlanta morning is too early to begin a race.

Tom caught the field after the start and started passing like a demon. The ice on the track moved a few unlucky drivers out of his way, too. That run-down 1.6 rental car embarassed a few high horsepower cars. Tom drove laps in the 1:45-1:46 range. Not bad in a car that had just run the 13 hour VIR Enduro and only had an oil change. I guess that Race Engineering motor is pretty strong. We only pitted for gas so Tom F drove the first stint, I drove stints 2 and 3, Tom F drove 4 and I drove 5 and 6.

The finish was Kyle was fun. When I wiggled in a turn he passed cleanly but I was able to stay on his bumper. He was running PTE and had pulled his restrictor plate so I had to really pedal to keep up. I pushed him up the back straight but figured that I didn't have the HP to get a pass done before 10a and 10b (I have seen videos of what happens when you don't finish the pass there :whistling: ) so I just stayed as close as I could. Unfortunately for Kyle, on the next lap his tire end down and I finished P1. Kyle demonstrated his driving talent by the way he kept from crashing the car coming down the hill in T12 as the tire went loose and finishing in P2.

Thanks to Tom F for driving a good race and giving us front position. OPM is a great outfit and they have given me wonderful support in my first year of racing. Ryan, Tim Ricky, Scott and the rest of the guys on the crew really know what they are doing and have been patient with this racer newbie. Since Tracy showed up, the food rivals Wolfgang Puck.

This was my first NASA weekend since 2008. I had a lot of fun, thanks to all the NASA guys for welcoming me with open arms. I haven't done an endurance race since Blake and I split the ARRC three hour Enduro in 2009. Must be something about Atlanta and endurance races.. I always finish second :(
I split the 8 hour with Kyle Webb and Frank Todaro, wanted to thank those guys for having me, what a great time. It was a lot of fun with out the pressure of a sprint race. With 10 minutes left we had the lead, wondering if we would make it on fuel. I think we said go fast get a gap to slow down and conserve fuel, back and forth about 10 different times. When the leader came around to take the white flag, we had the lead with Kyle driving. When we took the white flag we were in second :( Finished second. We punctured a left rear tire with 1.5 laps to go :( What a way to lose an 8 hour race. Kyle and Frank drove real well, Frank had never driven the track and Kyle only once before. we brought the car home with not even a ding, just a punctured tire :(

Thanks guys
Jim

Congrats to all and thanks for the write ups. Wish more of the forum would write up about their races. Allows us not-so-fortunates to get some of your enjoyment through your race recaps

JD - did you put any laps down in the new car? Whats the scoop?

I think I turned 5-6 laps in new car and it was not good :( Zero accomplished.
I will write up in blog later today

One other note... In these long endurance races.. You really can improve at tracks. I have as many laps around Road Atlanta as any other track, after about 3.5 hours Friday, I was going through T1 faster than I have ever gone in the past. You simply have time to try lots of different things.

Make sure you fit the car well or you pay the price in soreness the next day or two , don't ask me how I know :)

Satire is primarily a literary genre or form, although in practice it can also be found in the graphic and performing arts. In satire, vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society itself, into improvement.[1] Although satire is usually meant to be funny, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon.
