For several years, the Spec Miata guys have had a yahoo fantasy league for the NASCAR season. Now that our community has grown beyond SM into this new board, here are the details so that more can join us.

Well I made it to the podium for this week, but what ticks me off is that I had Trevor Bayne on my C-List roster... except he was on the bench. D'oh! (My fantasy team is "SMnoob")

Which brings me to my next question... what's the point of having a "bench" ? If you're not starting somebody, they aren't scoring points for you, right? So what's the point of them being on the bench vs. in the general pool of drivers?

You have to select all drivers bench/starters before the event starts. Then you can switch after qualifying/practice between bench and starters. You also get bonus points for top 4 or 5 in qualifying for a driver whether they are on the bench or starting. Because the Daytona 500 has such screwed-up qual rules, they don't give those bonus points. Last year they didn't give points for a rained out qual session, but the rules may have changed for 2011.

Another tip for the next 35 races is that DVR is your friend, if you bother to watch at all. I probably shouldn't be telling the newbies this, but pay attention to the cutoff time to pick your drivers as well as "impound" races with respect to practice/qualifying.

Congratulations to Andrew von C for Prez for taking the overall win and congratulations to all who played this year. We started out with 19 competitors and it looks like 14 made it the whole 36 weeks actually making picks.

The point spread was pretty tight with no runaways this year.
