tips on oil pick-up set-up

I've got my oil pan off and am noticing that there is quite a bit of clearance between the oil pick up screen and the bottom of the pan.

This is a 2004 nb. The pick-up is bolted to the windage tray. Is there any benefit to closing down the pick-up to pan clearance to say 1/4" or so?
