Seriously, they are getting to be a rare commodity. Is the CRB looking into a suitable non-Mazda replacement?

The wear and tear on your car is more of a factor that anything else. I built that car in 2004 I believe, I know it has have several bumps and bruises, I put one pretty good one on it myself, as did the second owner. The car was priced low to mid level SM 12-16k range vs 30k plus for a new one. That coupled with the fact that your relatively new to SM is ALL much more of a factor than your specific car or the generation of your car. Run this season and make a decision then. If you are not within a second of the pole times, this is not something to concern yourself with now as the car is not keeping you from winning. A better car will definitely help your results, but seat time will do more than car at this point IMO. My opinion is always race the best you can afford and take the car out of the equation, with that being said, we have sold many cars that were far ahead of the drivers. My opinion is spend a year or two in an average car and get to wear you are coming into your own, then buy a good car.
For the record, If you gave me a free clean 1.6 donor, versus a clean 99 donor for $4000, I would still build the 99 car as the 1.6 would still cost more to build.
Jim, I agree with all of that. That's why I was looking for a car like the one I bought. I need something to learn on. I'm aware this car has been flipped, and banged up...I can see the repairs underneath. I guess I wasn't thinking that it was beyond being run at the front by a frontrunner if freshened up, though. Maybe it is because of its history. That would make my decision easier. Eventually, I will either give up because I don't feel I am improving enough or I will continue to upgrade my equipment if my skill surpasses it. I don't usually give up.
Let me get this back to SM2...that was the point. If these cars are either inherently inferior because of the model, or are inferior because of their battered history, people feel SM2 gives them a more fair place to compete. It's definitely not perfect, I admit.
Interesting point about the older cars costing more to build because of their aging parts. Never thought of that.

The best thing about your car is that you will get pretty much what you paid or more for it if you want to sell in a year. You can then decide if you want to put another 10 k or so in that car or sell yours and put your sales proceeds and another 10-15k to build a new one or by a better one.
I don't know what engine is in the car now, but with a good engine and some freshening up, that car can certainly run up front.

With my limited experience, I can sense the car is good. Anyways, I'm gonna try to make the car as good as I can on a reasonable budget, and use it to learn how to drive and race. Thanks for your help.
(It has a Race Engineering motor)
P.S...the more I think about SM2, I forgot that I really do believe that the SCCA will do better by decreasing the number of classes. Selfishly, I just like more options to run the car.

Consultants make their money by cleanign house and cutting out waist... They are not big on knowing or following the rules
Consultants keep things interesting. Retirees, know all the rules and profess to be followers of said rules, Often times Retirees are bored and can be boring other times LOL
I think we just need to put you two in opposite corners for a Time out, You can go back to your coffee and news paper now. Mph will be around later after he consults some people on who knows what.
