What did you see?

So far just about 6 lbs that's been swept up. I didn't mask as good as I should and it's all over the shop. I've not done the car from the shifter hole back, trunk, rear fenders, package tray, etc. It's a dirty, oily mess back there. I figure that's right around a gallon of gas, so far. To be fair I don't know how much was deadening, prep from the engine bay, (lot's of compound in there) how much was road grime and how much was that oil leak from both the bolt where he removed the AC and didn't do anything for it and the streak of oil from the cam sensor fountain, err I mean leak. I'm going to compile the posts as a primer for getting a bad donor.

I have to ask: Seeing how you took her down to metal, how much primer/sealer/paint (by weight) had to go back on? That'll offset the floor sweepings by a bit, won't it? In all fairness, a lot of what was removed disappeared off into the atmosphere, so you can't account for the entire lot...

Dave I am impressed with the detail and the work. I like that paint booth set up what are you using on the other end of that vent tube in the picture.

Thanks. I did miss a couple of spots between the windshield and firewall as I ran out of hardener. (insert joke here...). The booth is a 12x12 EZ Up I've had since karting with tarps and plastic and mist the floor before putting more plastic down. The vent is connected to an HF exhaust blower, one of the best HF combos I've bought. And on sale with a 20% coupon... I was initially going to mount it over the welding table and got the hard duct to vent it outside but it's been so handy everywhere in the shop I decided to keep it portable. Works for a lot of things to vent nasty fumes to the outside.

I was going to install the front sub frame today but have to dig though orders a year old from MSM to find the new bolts. It wasn't until a few orders (and months) into the build that I figured I should start writing what the parts were on the MSM bags instead of the parts number alone. Then the basic engine and trans, just to get it out of the way in the shop, then the front suspension. Then on to the dirty back, the rest of the drive train and finishing up with the cage and interior. The big things I'm still missing are containment seat (sold my Kirkey, want a Butler) and tires and wheels. Except for a few bits and bobs I've got most of the other parts.

Thin, a sing;le coat of TCP Global Restoration Shop ermine white, single stage acrylic. We've been using in the stock car interiors for a few years. I like auto paint vs Rusoleum for the better resistance to auto fluids but I did refurb the subframe and A arms with Rustoleum.

No primer for me on race cars. I could just as easily wad it up the first time out, but I do like a clean car on which to work. Including all three parts, around a pint of paint was used though I would have done some more but I ran out of hardener. That did the trans tunnel and everything from the windshield forward.

I have been dam near killing myself and been on suicide watch about being 30 lbs over since we announced the 2400 lbs rule. I was over at 2450.. So at 2400, all had to come ALL off the backside. I am now within 10 lbs and when I come in after a race I have from a dixie cup to a 1/4 gallon left. Luckily my car picks up fuel to the last drop, many others do not. But coming in thirty lbs over is not a good scenario, at most 85-100 second a lap tracks I bet you are leaving an average of .2 or .3 per lap on the table, which is way too much in SM

Good for you Jim! What method? On what started as a dare/bet with my wife(who said I could never do it) I stopped eating carbs(for the most part)4 days before thanksgiving. By mid Feb I had lost 22lbs(starting at 207)and really by doing nothing more than just eating a lot of meat and vegtables. Stopped eating bread, potatoes,rice,pasta, sweets and soda(though dark chocolate and beer stayed in my diet!) Since I have maintained no problem by just keeping the carbs to 100g or less a day. One thing that I really found interesting during this exercise is just how everything cheap is carbs...because my grocery bills were ridiculous!

One more thing Jim...shave those HoHo's to 1/32... there's your 10lbs

I think I have done a little of everything over the years.. Never had a problem losing, keeping off the lbs has always been my problem. For all the fat people who say they have metabolism problems etc, I think 1out of 100 has a real problem. The rest are like me, they like to eat, eat too much and exercise way too little. It all boils down to calories in and calories out. I started using MYFITNESSPAL.com ( free site)about 4 months ago and log all my food and exercise in there. That has been the biggest help of anything that I have done, and I literally have done tried about everything. Amazing how many little bites of this and that add up to a lot of calories at the end of the day. I set my calorie goal at 1500 a day, try never to exceed 1800 and never below 1250.( Not counting calories burned) Lots of SM racers on that site, it has a friend systems similar to facebook. Daniels, me , Todd Buras, Todd Lamb and several others are all on there pretty regularly.

Calories in and out has always worked. But do realize not all calories are the same in how the body processes them!

MyFitnessPal phone app is working great for me. Easy and fast to use and keeps that calorie goal right in front of you each step of the way. Haven't really visited the Website yet.

I use the phone app as well, it synchs with website. Since I am on computer all day, it is just easier for me to type on this keyboard

Good to see your car last weekend, Todd. (Tom with the MR2 MK1.5) FWIW, I joined in the discussion due to my recent purchase of a 1994 miata. I won't thread hijack anymore, LOL. As others had stated, 30 lbs. is a good cushion for future ideas, and of course the fuel in tank weight juggle. Keep posting the good progress!

there is Todd - its called Spec Miata and you will find all of us middle aged fat bald old farts at the front mixing it up with the kids. Pat Sandlin, a grandfather in his 60's, although neither fat and most definitely not bald, won the Road Atlanta national this year.

That's the best thing about this class and this sport. There are very few sports which allow us middle aged old farts to compete heads up with the young bucks, but in motor racing we can still teach them a thing or two.

To get the formula correct, fuel weighs 6 pounds per gallon.

6.2 pounds per gallon for pure gas, 6.5 pounds per gallon for ethanol and somewhere in between for pump gass. I use 7 becuase it's easy to remember/calc 7 pounds per gallon and 7 minutes per gallon (1.6 with optimal A/F)

Well, if I was using gas for ballast I would use 6 lb/gal. That is far closer to the real weight, which varies with temperature and additives. So, if you add an extra 5 gallons, thinking you are adding 35 lbs. of ballast, you will end up light.

Yeah! 10 pounds. Just tell the guy in impound that you added an extra 5 gallons, that's 50 pounds, so his scale is wrong - You can't be under weight.

Tom, when did you find/buy the 94?? I'm around on weekends if you need any help wrenching.. I"m in S. Reno.. I"ll have the car out in two weeks as I'm instructing for the HOD weekend at Fernley..

I found the car on the Monday after the last SCCA event. I am going to start the caging build in a few weeks, and I will make sure that I come on out to the HOD weekend! See ya soon!
