Wondering if someone can give a tech inspector who is not intimatly familiar with spec miatas a good way of quickly determining a 99-00 car vs a 01-05 car (other than restrictor plate color). I am interested in ensuring that those cars are running the correct restrictor plates with a quick visual cross reference.

The easiest way to tell is pop the hood. The 01 has a oil pressure solenoid on top of the valve cover, the coils are on top of the valve cover and the the coils on the 99 are behind the motor. The intake cam sticks out of the front more than the exhaust on an 01 as well.

01 to 05 also have fog light holes in the bumper covers and white gauge faces if they are still in place

Jim got me in the right direction. Once i knew what to search for engine code wise i was able to find quite a few underhood pics. Thanks guys.
