We purchased these both from a local Miata used parts seller this year and they where both supposed to be torsion rear diffs from 1999 Miatas. We just took these both apart this last week and they both look completely different from one another. Can someone help identify what they may be?

Teeth on the Ring (43) and Pinion (10) so the set ups are 4:30

If you can look straight through, it's not an open. The diff on the right is showing its spider axle, so it's open.

One on the left might be a TOCHIGI FUJI SUPER LSD?

Based on the first pic, the one on the right is 100% an open diff.

The one on the left with a zip tie is 100% not a 94-2000 Torsen. Looks like it could be a later model limited slip. It has been so long since I have seen one that I forget what they look like. Mr Drago???? Or it could be something aftermarket. Slide an axle in and see if the splines are the same. It could also be a turbo diff, which uses special turbo axles.

The zip tie diff looks like it has the side gears & the spider gears. Could it be a different/newer version of the OPM (someone else) limited slip? Could you post another better view picture looking through the side hole?

We have done some extensive research this morning along with some phone calls. Here is what we came up with.

The Diff on the Right (Mine) is from a 1.8 rear open Diff (4.30) from 1999 or later.
The one on the Left (Rey) is a Tochigi Fuji Super LSD Torque sensing cone clutch type from a 2003 or Later.

Nither is a Torsen although the TFS was a supposed upgrade to Mazda from the earlier Torsen T2.

We purchased both rear-ends under the assuption that they were both Torsens several months ago. We only came to find out this info now because we happen to take them apart for some internal work. We have contacted the seller and made them aware of the situation. He is a reputable seller so we dont see there being any issues.

Thanks for input guys and hope to be back on the track real soon!
