The folks at the Circuit of the Americas were kind enough to host the Southwest Division leadership on a tour of the track on Saturday as part of our biennial business meeting. Wow. What a beautiful facility it is going to be.
With the exception of the main straight, the asphalt is all laid except for the final layer (about 8cm in thickness, based on the gap to the curbs). The main straight has 1 layer of asphalt poured but has two more layers to go after the construction of the grandstand is more complete.
This is going to be a fantastic track. Huge elevation change, a mix of high speed corner complexes and low speed hairpins. I wanna drive on it!

Yup, we have not seen anything like this in the USA before, and given the cost, won't probably ever again. It's an immense committment to a road track with amazing support facilities. The quality of track assembly from a civil engineering point of view is simply extrodinary. Turn one will be iconic. If we (SM) ever get to race there, then T1 will be one of the most challenging turns to get through unscathed.
