Is there really a desire for stockcars to be added to SCCA?

Most folks that own them are circle track racers and run in other sanctions. In fact there are a ton of opportunities for them to run elsewhere. No need to add another class particularly like Moose says they can run in GT-1. There has been talk of running the road circuit a couple of times a year in the local NWAAS along with the Legends US road racing series. It's a short season for that series, Jan to Mar.

The X-ASA cars were given a regional class, GTA, several years ago. There was a pretty good circuit in SCCA that included with Sebring, Texas, HPT and the ARRC, with a series champion. The HPT race had a bunch of cars, a big party and a rock and roll band. Ron Keith, and the Kansas Tornados, were a big part of the series. When all of his guys dropped out, for various family and economic reasons, the series died. Those cars are now running in GT1 and some have moved into the Trans Am 2 class. The ASA cars were converted with left/right turing suspensions. Tube chassis, LS engines and plastic bodies. Some of those cars are not in Europe, with new model Camaro plastic bodies. Ron is now running a Late model in circle track dirt races in the midwest.

B-Spec is not on probation. B-Spec cars are running in SCCA as SSC cars for 2012. T1, T2, T3, SSC, SSB and B-Spec will become T1-2-3-4 next season.

Not that I intended this to be a thread about class reorganizing (which is fine), but do we really need 4 Touring categories? Couldn't we (this is a club) find a way to limit it to 3?

Wheel I sent you a PM. Did you get it?

Please remember that I own a B-spec and was one of the early proponents of the class. Unfortunately it has not taken off for many reasons. If B-Specs are going National as T4, the class should start on probation. If they/we can not get the numbers, they/we should not continue to be a National class.

I find it interesting that no one objected to any of my ideas. BoD????? CRB???? Mr SCCA President???

Can we start on world peace soon and maybe global economics over cocktails.

That makes more sense from a #s standpoint. The B-Spec class is in a weird spot with it being run Pro races as well.

Dave,
With the exception of ignoring the ST classes, you are pretty close to what we are trying to do. The Formula AC did float the idea of FM and FE being combined. The member input was about 4,320 against and 0 for. So, the BoD voted that one off the island at the last meeting. The CSR/DSR combine is a rule for 2014 and a sub-committee is working on the rules to make that happen.
We will see what happens with B-Spec. I expect that it will be a very popular class in a short time. If I'm wrong, I don't think anybody will support keeping it around for years and years with no participation. Everyone has been working very hard to get the class right and to keep the rules consistent across the board for all of the Pro series and for Club Racing. It is a work in progress.

I don't think it's realistic to expect B Spec, or any new class to immediately start getting many entries. The economy, the timing of the announcement and the donor costs are just a couple of the hurdles to overcome. I'd give them another two seasons.

B-Spec will have some time to develop. Nobody should be expected to build a race car if the rug would be pulled out from under them just when they got the build done.

That's another good point, fear of class going away. I think as many manufacturers that get in at the grassroots level the better. Though we could debate if a late model or current model production car is grassroots I think the spirit and intent is there. Look at what some of the hobby formula car racers spend. I'd consider that or a $40k local/regional dirt late model to still be grassroots.

I am 100% behind B-spec. I own one. The class has not taken off because nobody picked up the ball and ran with it. In my opinion everybody is to blame.

SCCA came out with the rules too late. This should have been done over pizza in one evening.
Mazda, came out with one package, then came out with another that did not make the car any faster, just more expensive and harder to build.
Mazda, Honda, Fiat and Mini for using non compliant cars for their "testing" and using hi level pro drivers to "tune" the cars.
World Chalenge for having 3 race weekends in Utah, California and Canada. Nothing east of the Rockies in the USA
Grand-Am for making the announcement at Daytona 24 hours. Should have been made at PRI show in December and had a 24 minute race on Saturday morning. Get the buzz started. Then not having races at their premier tracks.
Mother nature for ruining the Homestead race. And then we had Earnie.
Runoffs World Challenge demonstration race. Lets have a race and nobody shows up. To be eligable to run the SSC/B-Spec race at the Runoffs, you must have qualified for the Runoffs in SSC. Which no B-Spec competitor has done. If it is a demo race, why not open it up. As of today, there are 14 drivers who have finished the required 4 races and are eligable to enter the Runoffs. Only a handfull more will get the required 4 races. The website point standings are almost 2 weeks old??? SSB, which races with SSC at the Runoffs has 14 qualified. So lets extrapolate that each class will have 20 eligable drivers and 75% of them actually attend. That is still only 30 cars on a 4 mile track. Seems kinda boring to me. Make anyone who has raced a B-spec eligable. BUZ buzz BUZZ

Enough of a thread hijack, back to Greek ecomomics

Current points are up. Top 155 (several tied at 155) SM, with four finishes, are qualified. That is anyone with 10 points, or more.

Just to verify. The newly posted scores are not final. There are still a hand full of races left and the numbers could change slightly.

Although that is correct, I don't see anything changing except for new individuals reaching the 10 point cut-off. There are about 25 drivers tied at 10, It would take at least that many drivers, who have not raced yet, to come out and race to drop the cut off to 9 points. Also, if six of those 25 score some more points, it could move the 11 point group down to 155th, which is the top 50% if we don't have any more new entrants. I'm glad it isn't complicated.
