I received my restrictor plate today from NASA, Its larger that a quarter and smaller than a 50 cent piece. Looks pretty tight to me. I wonder with all the fuel starvation if the car is going to run to lean and to hot or if the smaller restrictor will affect the temp of the motor.

The restrictor limits airflow (so if anything, you'll go rich) but the 99's air mass sensor measures this and adjust the fuel flow accordingly. So if you have your car tuned correctly the plate shouldn't have any adverse effect and just limit the torque/hp.

I ran my car on the dyno with a 41mm and 37mm plate back to back with the car optimized for 41mm plate. The AFR was not signifcanlty impacted.

What James said. We dyno'd for NASA at MSR last Saturday after the race. He's right, it didn't change A/F ratio, but it did effect the HP.

I said I'd report back, interesting results.

Infineon NASA
Group A SM 37mm RP, 2390#s
Group B PTE, I ran my SCCA setup 41mm RP 2450

My car was still corner weighted for SCCA.

Saturday 2/12
Went across the scales with 1/16 under E at 2397
Group A Qual 201.90 Car was loose.
Race 201.70

Group B Qual 200.85 Car was good.
Race I didn't race, I had to take off the the fuel regulator. (I don't want to talk about it)

Sunday 2/13
No regulator and added 50#s runing about 2440 and didn't change for A and B
Ran a little loose all day, didn't adjust.
Group A Qual 200.88
Race 200.80

Group B Qual 201.39
Race 201.79

A lot of variables there. On its face, data seems to be saying that an ill-prepared NASA car is faster (or no more than 1 sec slower) than a properly prepared SCCA car. How did it do against the NAs?

Waiting to hear real-world experience from an "apples to apples" comparison b/w NASA setup and SCCA setup.

Have there been any NASA races with the new 99 rules in place? This should be the real test to see how they actually compare to the NA on the track.

Yes, if I could of focused on just one it would of been better.

I qual around two other guys in NA's.
Raced the whole weekend around them.
It was good.

That's what occurred. JohnnyD ran SM in NASA trim and PTE in SCCA trim.

So, JD, not ready to list that 99 on racingjunk.com for a fire sale price yet?

Nope, trying to get my moneys worth for build costs from last year.
Blew up my junkyard engine at Infineon last year, maybe you saw the video with the cockpit fire.
I have a new crate now with a ton of races to do.

I think I'll go next month in full NASA SM trim.
Too much work changing weights and RP, add gas and go, with A and B an hour apart. (no crew)
