I have a question. the press release states " Its symmetric design uses two circumferential grooves molded to a 4/32nd tread depth with additional wear inspection holes on the void areas. This race-ready design eliminates the need for tire shaving and provides ultimate traction with superior cornering force"

will a new set that is shaved to 1/32, as i know some used to do with the RA1, be any faster than an unshaved new set?

if the answer is yes, then i would assume we will still be shaving them.

doesnt shaving reduce the rotating mass/unsprung weight and make for faster lap times?

This has proved to not be true with the Hoosiers.

Now that the cat is out of the bag...who has already tested these and what feedback can you offer? So far price point sounds good!

Has the change been known for a while??

The reason I ask is I did not know, and I just bought tires, so I have 2 sets of sticker shaved tires and one set of sticker rains and only 3 more race dates to use them up. Bummer for me!

Anyone in NorCal want to buy a set of shaved stickers from me?

Would it be fair to call this an RA-1 with different tread, or is it more fundamentally different?

How much. I have 2 races left this year and after seeing this thread don't really want to buy another set of new tires. You can send me a PM.

Yes & No... The development project with NASA & Toyo has been going on for about a year. I tested 4 different constructions with a few other guys back in December, prototype & short run production units have been tested since April.

All NASA Toyo bucks earned from yesterday to the end of the year should have an extra 2 months on them.

I would think there will be a transition period for sure. As was seen at Infineon in SCCA a month ago, RA1's can be driven as fast as Hoosiers!

I hope we get some cars at the 25hr on these to get some real wear and grip data!

Part of the testing included running three 3hr NASA WERC Enduros (one may have been 4hrs) on the same set of RR's... The drivers told me they are still good to go some more, even for sprint races.

Nice, real nice guy....

The inital test I did inclued three drivers at different skill levels, take a wild guess who was the 'back-of-the-back representitive' .... Really guys, NASA was very involved with the development to get us the best product (grip & life) we could get at a resonable price.

We'll announce the transition strategy a few weeks after Nationals, but honestly the RR is significantly faster... So if you're looking to run at the pointy end you'll want to run the RR straightaway... But, if you're out to have fun regardless of where you finish then I have a feeling there will be some cheap RA1's on the market soon.

Just going by what you tell me :D

Based on your statement both tires will be ok(2013)...at least for awhile? Real rain tire?
