My thoughts, Hey your in, be greatful and don't shoot the messenger. :)

And wow, 5 more groups, how are they all going to fit in the schedule. Volunteers working lunch? breakfast and dinner too?
J~

Those 5 new groups are waitlist groups... So Yianni is in the waitlist rungroup. I guess being first on that list is better than last.

Just sharing an interesting trend for the COTA event:

The break-down of that major groupings of types of Miatas within SM are:
1.6 = 19 entries = 22%
1.8 = 8 entries = 9%
99+ = 59 entries = 69%

There is a 3.4% chance of earning a podium spot. My guess is that there will be 3 99's on the podium.

How many of those 59 1999 entries ranked inside the top 35 in National points last year versus the other cars? :scratchchin: That may be a better indicator than car year.

Would like to see some money used to secure the test days as SCCA insured events. At 50K per day to rent, the SCCA will get the money back with 150 cars each day at $375, and we'll have health and damage insurance.

Pay our corner worker personnel for test days as well, so we have trained people on the corners.

Speaking of garages, when is the mystery going to unfold on who got them and who didn't? That should have been published when the event sold out since they were first come first served. Given there was a post that within hours said who the first 9 people to register were, it would seem that info is already available for the 30 garages as well.

I received a confirmation email last night. Not sure if they went out to everyone that got a garage, but I did receive one.

its not like they cannot afford to do it. plus if they took over test days then i would bet they would allow more than 150 cars per day. I would almost think that they would want to do this so that they can minimize shut outs on practice which will increase the margin of safety by a ton.

I wonder what we don't know about there arrangement as this is just to logical.

I'm not going, but if I were I'd suggest hiring a bunch of Austin strippers for grid girls.

As much as some of this is appealing, not sure I want to see more load on Lone Star SCCA...

What I would like to see is SCCA negotiate (fast) with COTA to set up more than 150 cars a day. They could easily run this like a DE with 5 groups of 45-50 cars and allow 225-250 cars a day for 4 x 25 minute sessions each. This would ease the stress greatly and allow costs per car to be a little lower and income to track to be higher. A win for all parties. Allowing drivers to get onto the track and practice with smaller groups and with less stress will be safer which is, I think, a goal for all.

The Drivers Edge event DE at COTA was limited to 35 cars per group on track. We had 4 run groups x 4 sessions plus an instructor group that got out on track just twice during the day. I think the 150 car count must be a track management hard limit. As has been mentioned before, the track management is a bit skeptical about us amateur racer yahoos. Hope we can get everyone that want's it at least 2 days to practice. This would certainly benefit the track as the carnage will be highly probable without some time spent on the track to learn where to pass, brake, turn in. etc. in traffic.

Hence my suggestions earlier in this thread. I'd like to see SCCA (lone star reg and nat office) get wednesday and thursday as insured test day events.

Keep COTA in the track rental business and not managing High T club racers they have never dealt with before (in mass), and keep SCCA in the business of running an event of this size and bettering (hopefully) the club racers experience.

I would support the first half of a test day as being run like a big DE session(s). I would rather be stuck learning the track in line instead of losing track minutes to cleanup and handling cars that went off. Running it like a DE should promote that I would think.

Again I'd think that the test day limit is the real limit for this kind of event, at least for people traveling far.
