Battery is dead.  The alternator was not charging and looks like it killed the battery.  I understand the Miata uses a special battery.  Do I have to special order this or can I source it from one of the local generic auto parts stores?

Do Optimas drop in or are modifications required?

Thanks.

Got mine at Napa.  They had it in stock, exactly the same dimensions.

Just got one from Napa which was 4 Lbs lighter than one being offered at Autozone. I think I paid about $120. The local Mazda dealership wanted $180 for a oem which is made by Interstate.

Glass matt battery at Car Quest $90.00, direct bolt in.

One has to love the word "similar" used for the battery weight rule.

Autozone sells one (direct bolt-on) - I have it in my car.  Haven't checked AAP.  Either way, go to my page, grab a coupon and save some $$ (I have them for both stores on the AAP page).

Thanks.  For some reason I thought these were special batteries.

I have used $30. lawn tractor batteries from Wal-Mart in several cars with no problems.
