Can I talk about tech for a moment. since I was not on the podium, I understand restrictors were pulled, and measured, that alternators were tested. what else was done? Novak your the podium queen these days. what did they do to you other than suggest you donate that brain to science?

Did the guy who hit Hille do it on purpose? It was hard to tell if he got loose or turned into to him.
no not in my opinion.

TECH---- Like Kyle said Weight, Plate, Tires size and Brand, and a general look over is what I saw.

It would be fun to watch if Justin and Shawn each had the COTY to drive, even a 99 would do the trick.
Now it's a 01.

I didnt want to say anything, but I noticed no restrictor plate in your car after qualifying HilleDid not hit me on purpose, messed up and slid up into me, didn't have it under control.

Ya, you got to watch those 1.6er's all the time.
As the developement continues with the 99 plus cars and the max potential (within the rules) has been reached with the 1.6 cars, what are we going to do to keep the 1.6er's wanting to race within Spec Miata???

IMO, 90-00 development is at an equal level, if anything probably a little more room in 1.6 as there are no plates and not many front runners fooling with them since open FP. 01+ is a wild card, not nearly little development work done there. I have one here started and building one now as well.
As a competitor, I will build what works best for me.. As for the class, I have said and stand by the following:
Allowing the 01+ top become the COTY would be TERRIBLE for the class. It is the most expensive donor, it is by far the minority in the class.

I am happy with my 01 but there plenty of places that the 99 is a better engine. Every long straight shows the strength of the 99. Every tight corner shows the strength of the 1.6
1. Big tracks 99
2. Med tracks 01
3. Tight techinical tracks 1.6.
Hille's video shows just how good a 1.6 can be in the right hands.

Out west we have some pretty well developed 1.6's unfortunately most don't travel! What we have seen is a little different and only a few guys running the 01...
If it is a momentum track (no 2nd Gear) 1.6. Although they do well in tight technical course the torq of the 99 and 01 seem to show better when accelerating out of 2nd gear corners.
We have also noticed that on top end our 1.6 gains back some on the 99's and more so the 01's. It takes a long straightaway to do this (like Cal Speedway). Overall the 99 and 01+ may be better, but I don't think it's speed, I think it is the consistency, The 1.6's you have to ring by the neck more than the 99's and 01's...if you think I am crazy(which most due) look at the drivers as they get out of the cars on a hot day and compare the guys who drive a 1.6 vs a 99 and 01+ and it will tell a story.
I think the parity is pretty good and this is coming from a 1.6 team.

Nobody mentions the 95-97 NA 1.8 when they are talking about different cars suited to different tracks. I wonder why? Just saying.
There you go Ron; I'm out of the closet. .

No whining, just an observation!!
You couldn't pay me enough to buy my 97. Because when we finally do beat you in it, you will know without a doubt you just got your behind handed to you from a small garagista with half the resources in a car no one wants. Now back to your cave Kyle and Ill head back down to the cellar.
Michael, let me know where you think that track might be!

Ron, now that I am out of the closet, feel like a drink with me at Mazda after the race? We could make such beautiful 97 noise together!
