Whoa. Hang on a sec. You said the calipers were new... One set from rock auto the other from Mazda speed. So, this new caliper had a BADLY pitted piston?

New when I put them on the car.  I've been fighting this for ~2 seasons.  I've had the current calipers on the car for a year+.

On the topic of "pitted" caliper pistons...

 

Here is a pic of a rear reman caliper I bought from the local parts place.  Focus your attention on the piston bore.  This replaced a caliper I bought from Mazda Motorsports whose piston seal started seaping lightly resulting in a softer than normal pedal.  Hasn't been much of an issue for me.  At least not yet...
