For the record:I'm a chief engineer for a major defense contractor. I oversee the design and construction of major structural modifications to aircraft. I have entire teams of structure and stress engineers who do the detailed designs for these mods. None of them would make such flippant declarations without any substantiation.
See, that’s part of the problem right there. As a chief engineer you’re accustomed to having your daily dose of BS carefully filtered, polished, and served up on fine china so you’re not used to how it smells straight from the source. I’m just a lowly deputy chief so I’m up to my neck in flippant comments and unsubstantiated opinions that require all the filtering and polishing. Besides…every good structures/stress engineer knows that you’re never done studying and arguing the merits of all the various design concepts while there’s still budget left.
