I am to bro, still don't see your point and it's cool if I don't. Regardless, I think Steve has the right idea.

No problem you can view it any way you want to! But what I am getting from you is those guys who are 3 seconds slower, should somehow be rewarded by slowing someone else down? Just so I understand your PERSONAL opinion!

Not relevant. Neither car or driver is at or near the level of car or driver that Alex represented.

you make me laugh. you've never been within 50 miles of my new car. you haven't been at a track with me in what, 3 years?

we all know you know a crapton about these cars, but having actually been on track with the new rules, i'm not so sure the package isn't damn close. if you throw out the $50K cars as statistical anomalies - which they are - i think the cars are REALLY close.

screw the car and driver - look at the lap times. NASA MA's lap records appear to be missing at the moment, but i believe the current record @ VIR full is in the 2:19's. i ran a 2:20.2 in practice on friday and clicked off two 2:20's (granted, .7 and .9) during the race.

so if i'm not that good behind the wheel and was turning 2:20's, lap record in the :19's...what does that say?

and John - i had an absolute blast in the car all weekend. sunday was one of my favorite races ever. did you see the margin of victory? .024 seconds on a pass off the last corner!

John agreed with my point, which was pretty clearly stated. Parity for the masses. You will undoubtedly read that as Party for Dumbasses. At which point, you will ask why we are discriminating against smart people in SM. They like to party too. Then I'll remind you I wrote "parity for the masses" and you'll remind me that NASA's attempts to get the mass of all 3 generations closer started this whole damn thing.

I give up.

Mike, I enjoy time spent around you BUT, this ^ seems to be the standard out of the SCCA SMAC/CRB. When a top driver brings a top 1.6 to Road America (or doesn't bring a 1.6 because it's like bringing a knife to a gun fight) there is always an EXCUSE from the SCCA why that 1.6 didn't do $hit.

Maybe for Road America (Runoffs till 2013 & we have 7 races per year there) a slight bone should be thrown to the 1.6 or take a bit away from the 99. In two Runoffs at Road America we haven't seen a 1.6 any where near the podium.

Both years Slattery is the best 1.6 finisher at 8th in 2009 30 seconds back & 10th in 2010 6 seconds back. For 2010 qualifying Slattery was 1 second faster than 2009 & Steve G was 2 seconds faster in 2010 than he was in 2009. That my friend is dealing with the best 1.6/99 that was there other than that Andrew won in 2010. Oh & by the way Pombo (no disrespect Matt) didn't bring his 1.6 after entering it.

Kyle, Do you want a class where the most talented driver wins or a class where the biggest wallet wins. There are plenty of 'wallet' classes already. Count how many GT-1 or FA cars show up on a given weekend.

When I started SM in 2002, 4-6 SM entries were the norm. 40-50 SM entries are a lot more fun. We had 79 or 80 SMs at VIR a few years ago. It's been several years since I've seen 40 Miatas at Mid-Ohio.

I don't know the two drivers at VIR, so I can't comment.

Adjusting cars (at all, let alone correctly) and making the most people happy seldom go hand in hand. I don't subscribe with this method that NASA is taking, but it is pretty obvious that I am not their target customer. I don't think their approach is an attempt at parity as much as it is an attempt to make the most of their membership happy as possible. So in the end, if their adjustments meet their goals, it is mission accomplished, whether we all agree or not. I can assure you that getting 51% of SM drivers in agreement on anything will never happen, let alone on parity adjustments.
I often say on conference calls and truly believe it... In SM we can have a coin flip decision and regardless if it comes down heads or tails, 75 % of the people will disapprove. :P

Pick your path, stick to it, take the criticism and give it time to pan out.

Parity for the masses is temporary at best. The people that put time and money into this will make there way to the front, and probably way out front. They will do it in a '90, '97, or '99 wichever one happens to be better whatever the rules.

I was one of those guys 3 seconds behind, and no, I don't believe in slowing down Adam's 99, or any other car to make up for my lack of driving ability, or set up skill, or wallet. I want everyone who is fast to be on equal footing, whether they are in a 1.6 or a 99, and I want everyone else to also have the same benefit of having cars as equally matched as is possible. Obviously some cars will have an inherent advantage at certain tracks over others. With that being the case, it makes no sense to me to hold either the NASA championships or the Runoffs at the same venue year after year.

Denny, lets be honest really in a 50 car field there are maybe 7 guys who could win. Why are they fast enough to win? You will say it is talent! I would say they have talent but they have spent more and have talent. You cannot stop people from spending more if they have it to spend, hell the nation is in the worst recession we have seen in years because people that didnt have the funds to spend spent them anyway and borrowed yet more.

I get what your saying and if the track supplied the cars and assured they were all even then that would be the greatest racing of all, I think Skip Barber has that, but we own our own cars, prep them to the level we each desire and some get coaching some dont some are having fun in 50th some are only having fun in that top 7!

I think everyone in a 99 has been demonized as rich! I dont find that to be true and I dont understand why you are arguing with me about this really have I not pointed out that Deerwester is driving a well preped 1.6 and he is doing one hell of a job wheeling that thing to plenty of victories against well preped 99's and that was under the old rule set. He is even two time GL champ if I have my facts straight! Why didnt he need a 99 for that kind of result!

One thing I know If you want to win it is gonna take some dough! I know I have dumped some serious dough into this racing thing but it is because I want to win, will year two pay dividends on my investment I dont know but I know sure as hell I wasnt going to win with my 15k car! And it was not the guy with fast 99 that made me think that, it was those 1.6's smoking me down the back streach at MO!

I like the guys in 50th and I like the guys in 1-7th. The new rules didn't stop anyone from outspending someone to win they just have to do it with a 97 or a 1.6 now, I dont care how fast you are or who is coaching you or what you spend I dont think you can win the NASA championship with a 99 unless Moses parts the read sea for you and destroys all the other cars on the track for you!

I know you will be there for the April race go back to my prediction of who would beat who handily, I stand by that prediction! We shall see and I look forward to a beer with you when we can discuss this further!

Within the SCCA tradition, previous to Topek, KS (3 years) the Runoffs had been at Mid Ohio for IIRC 15 years & previous to Mid Ohio at Road Atlanta for longer yet.
