Wow, one week out from the "Majors" at Eagles Canyon at 9 SM's registered (smallest group) with 115 total entries.  What a dud.  I hope the logic that decided moving away from TWS to this date and time was a good fix for the scheduling conflict at TWS in College Station is seriously reviewed.

I am not a rocket scientist, but I saw this result 4 months ago.  People in charge of scheduling need a reality check.

It is too bad, I live in TX but am not travelling to that place, and it looks like a lot of other are not either.

The entries for SM remind me of what it looked like last year at Pacific Raceway and Portland Intl for the Majors, super small group.  It was actually mixed in with the SRF class which made for some entertainment when the rain came down and Joey Jordan did his best shawn white impersonation jumping his car.

There is some hot Mazda 2 on Mazda 2 on Mazda 2 B-Spec action going down at Eagles Canyon.  That would be fun to watch.

James, I agree. TWS is a great track. The venue is important for large numbers. If not COTA, or TWS, then I vote for TMS. Others may disagree, but the facility would be great for a Majors, and I think its fun for a Roval

I have two beefs with this thing called Majors

1)  I think the "Majors" events should be held at venues that people WANT to race in the conference/division (whatever we call it these days)

2) And consider the population base area from which to pull entries.  They should not be placed in regions to try to subsidize non-viable events by forcing out of area masses to tow.  Classic example was last year Colorado hosting 2 majors and Texas 1.....

Yes I am still peeved about that.....

If I was making the 2014 schedule, it would change like this:

Feb. 7-9 – NOLA Motorsports Park, Avondale, La.
March 15-16 – Eagles Canyon Raceway, Decatur, Texas Texas World Speedway

April 5-6 - Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, Jennings, Okla.
May 3-4 - High Plains Raceway, Byers, Colo.
May 24-25 - Pueblo Motorsports Park, Pueblo, Colo. Texas Motor Speedway
Aug. 30-31 - Heartland Park Topeka, Topeka, Kan.

Assuming we can't race COTA, although I would wager with increased entry fees to cover the rental the event would still draw enough attendance to be viable.

Just say "no" to TMS.  Facilities are great but to me it's essentially like driving on the freeway plus 4 turns.

Well I would take COTA over it any day, I would even pay more to get to COTA.

But I would choose TMS over Eagle Canyon for me.  I always enjoyed running on the TX dyno.  But if the SCCA never returns, I guess my track record will stand indefinitely.

The move away from TWS may not have been optional.

TWS was sold to a Real Estate Investment firm in Dec '13.

The new owners have requested a MUD (Municipal Utility District), a Texas way of getting the roads & sewers paid for by someone other than the developer.

They are planning a Master Planned Community for the site.

That's a damn shame.  I hope the council votes to block formation of a MUD.

It's been rumored for some time that TWS would become a subdivision, but this time it looks like the real deal.

It was optional, based on conflict with parents weekend at A&M.  There are still races scheduled at TWS at other dates.  The track may not host racing at some time in the future however.

Probably won't help, but there is a petition to save TWS: http://soonerbillz.com/SaveTWS/

It was always about a TAMU conflict.  As you stated the track was sold and the new owner is positioning it to be developed.  They are not developers,  they are investors only and are doing the entitlement work.  A more likely demise of the track will be, if the revenues don't exceed the costs of O & M  while the investor is holding the property.
