According to the November Fastrack:

 Regional and Majors Competition
All cars shall use the P205/50ZR15 Hoosier “SM6””SM7” Spec Miata Dry or the
P205/50R15 Hoosier “H2O” Spec Miata Wet Tires.
All cars may run SM6 or SM7 dry tires through the fi rst two Majors conference
weekends in Mid-States, Northern and Western Conferences. In the Eastern
Conference, the SM6 and SM7 may be used until the completion of the third
Majors weekend. After these dates, only the SM7 tires will be permitted in Majors
competition. In Regional competition, both the SM6 and SM7 will be permitted
through the end of 2014.
Only the SM7 and H20 tires will be permitted in the 2014 Runoffs.

In other words; if your first Majors race is Thunderhill you will be on SM7's for all your Majors races.

The bottom line is that for SM you must be on Hoosiers, no exceptions.  We are not allowed to expand this in our supps.

I have a call in to Conference to find out their rules for 2014.

Terrell

As I understand it we can run both the SM6 and SM7 in regional events this year correct?

ICSCC in SM tire rules:

SM : SM6 and H20 only

CSM: RA1 and RR only

1.  Correct

2.  I would like to see it in writing before I jump off the cliff.  If correct then I personally see no reason to have an additional class in the run group.  Let the argument begin!

Talked to Dave Dunning (class guy). He says Hoosiers for sm in 2014. Ra1's for csm. I see no reason for multiple classes so absent conflict on dec. 3rd I will inform Karen at the office

I'm good with the national rule as written.  No to CSM, there just isn't anybody running it in conference or SCCA anymore!

I have an opinion so I must be right

Actually CSM in Conference can run either RA1's or RR's....might actually see an increase in CSM because of the RR....also NASA crossover. I understand some SCCA regions might incorporate a SMX or something similar to incorporate other SM's choosing to run something other than Hoosiers. Might not be a bad idea.

Interesting to note regions running the other classes such as SMT have over 70 entries between the two classes....we don't even have 70 SM's in the PNW.

Also looked up the ICSCC results, only 4 drivers in CSM ran more then 1 weekend, with the most weekends being ran at 3. IIRC, when CSM was introduced into SCCA a few years back, entries remained light outside of the GP.

We tried CSM before and got two entries.  Mainly because they wanted a Rose Cup Trophy (can't say I blame them).  I don't think the tires had anything to do with it.

Unless a few people come forward and commit to run multiple CSM or SMT races I just don't see the point of spending the time setting up all the stuff and getting the permissions for something that at this point looks like it has about zero chance of subscription.  There have been two CSM cars in Conference and one of them does not race SCCA (though he is a great guy and class driver).  I am more than willing to lend an old set of SM6's to the other.

At the summer NASA race Cindy entered SM after she broke her other car so she could qualify for Miller.  I was the only other SM (see line 1 of this post, yes, I wanted the $3 trophy) and the second race I ran HOHO's and nobody seemed to care (and I received another $3 trophy and no flag).

I really want to be inclusive here but why set up alphabet classes if no one will enter them?

PS - Don't forget about the Miatacage tire rental program.  Tires are available.

Hey Terrell, Won't splitting the classes have a detrimental affect on drivers trying for the run-offs?  Not that I'm trying, I'm not.  Just asking for those who are.

And Happy Thanksgiving to all also.

Because of the way points are set up next year having CSM would not affect points.

Unless someone pipes up quickly in opposition to just running SM I will drop the gavel early next week.

Do we have a spec snow/ice tire? What if this stuff stays around? Tried SM6's in the ice and they were a no-go......

Reminds me of buying my first donor about 12 years ago.  The car had studded snow tires, so I made a point to do a burn out in front of Lori on the way home.  Almost as many sparks as bedding Hawk Blues on a summer evening country drive  B)

I have 2 sets of the SM-6's with 1 and 2 heat cycles that need a new home.  Let me know if you're interested.
