I'm only planning on going to the 3 SCCA events at my local track this year which is located less than 10 miles from me.
Hales Bales - drive the SM to the track for the first year while deciding if you like it or not.
The upside of buying a trailer is they generally hold their resale value well.
Avoid UHaul. The car haulers have 4" tall side rails that are perfect for punching holes in floorboards, And the UHaul shops I've visited tended to be staffed by the, ummm, intellectually challenged.

I missed the "10 miles from the track" comment. It's a nobrainer. Drive it to the track!
And if it's really something you don't want to do, have it towed by your local AAA flatbed guy. You may be able to negotiate a round-trip rate ;-)

You could also get a tow dolly. Uhaul rents those too.
For a 10 mile tow, the frequency with which you'll be towing and your location/laws, I'd try a trailer w/o brakes and see how it works out for you. I towed a trailer w/o brakes for 600 miles round trip and it was fine. Drove more conservatively to/from than normal but I didn't die or jack knife. Granted, I was towing with an Excursion but...
Nothing wrong with driving it either if you can.
