Do you want to chat and ask questions of the top dogs? If you do, who is your top dog, pick three.

This is the first event that I want to do that the old site would not allow. SHARING the black magic is goal number one for me.

Also, can we do this while you are at work or nights only?

What is the advantage of live chat over posting the same questions with the same answers in the message board format?
Regardless of when you schedule a live chat, a large part of your audience will be unable to log in at that particular time.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Since I am not on the list I can actually work on a car while everybody is chatting!!!!!!!

This is a forum site not a manual to explain racing. I don't see many experts posting random tricks now, do you? Hoping that some of them "might" be willing to answer questions live.

It drives traffic to us, gives them exposure and may answer some questions that otherwise go explained in a topic>post format.

Advantage potential enough?

I am personally a fan of live chat no matter what time of the day. One can find someone to chat with pretty much most of the time. I am not a racer just a fan so not one to be able to give advice on racing or working on cars but am a member of a couple of sites w/chat and I like them. You can pretty much meet people on line before you actually meet them in person. I also saw that there are a lot of people here willing to help someone in need. Plus I;m a girl after all! LOL!!

Anywho, that's my two cents!
Great site by the way for us non racers to follow our favs!!

I liked the topic-focused evening webinars you guys were doing at the end of last season and think that they're a better use of human resources than a live chat option.

Live chat is good. Evenings are better for me. Chatting during work is iffy. I have a certain liberty but I can't abuse that liberty. If we're heads-down in an issue or there's a mtg going on I couldn't participate.

I agree w/Cy -- the webinars were terrific. I wish that the text of those were posted. The "live chat" option is a good idea but individuals can lead a discussion to places that are not of interest to all. Maybe setting a topic to at least guide the chat is an option. It would also be great if the entire chat could be posted so those who could not make the chat can benefit from what has been said.

Thx for coming up w/ideas to make this forum even more useful.

Think these live chat sessions would be especially helpful for the new racers trying to get up to mid pack speed. Set one or two topics a session. Some could be specific car related issues and some could be more race craft issues. Practical advise from guys who have been successfully doing this for some time is invaluable IMO. You might want to have several experts who race 1.6's, etc. Would also like to see Dave Wheeler on that expert list since just about everyone has bought his manual.

Hi Jim,

I think it would be really helpful to participate in a live chat. Often what happens is that people ask questions which you did not think of yourself, so it's very valuable. Also, to be able to ask questions about anything would be helpful, ie., iRacing, brake pads, set-up, etc.

The only problem for me is that since I am in California, I really can't get on until 6 pm or so, which makes it much later for you guys in the east. Also, it's impossible for me to do it during the day because of my work schedule.

Keep me posted and I look forward to the live chat!

Thanks,

Mark B

Back when were were doing the dot com thing live chat was very popular. One advantage is that when it's live it's more like an interview rather than a thread which may continue for weeks. Our content was entry and high level technical engineering and artistic issues related to our craft in which we got specialists in particular areas to participate. This allowed the companies they worked for or owned to have the opportunity to sponsor or in some cases if it was a big enough name we'd give them the title sponsor position to get them. It was a larger revenue generator than random banner impressions and the most popular archive on the site.

Our format was one of two "rooms", the main room where the host and guest were. The questions were submitted and the host posted the questions with the guest repling. This makes archiving easier and makes it easier to follow the conversation without all the noise of everyone else on the chat. To accommodate the audience, we had a second open room where they could talk amongst themselves without taking away from the main room.

As for MR chats, Dave Wheeler needs to be on the list. There are others as well.

Things I'd like to see covered are fabrication techniques and tools. Don't see a lot of that on the site. Perhaps a series for noobs. Getting new racers in and up to speed so they don't get discouraged is important. You don't have to give the secrets for the last couple of tenths but info could be shared to get them up to speed quicker. Perhaps some F&C, race admin or T&S stuff for those that can't or don't wish to race. And of course drivers that are/have climbed the ladder. But more for their personal stories rather than to discuss race craft.

Dave

Live Chat / Webinars are always great. Live feed, video or pics as you go along, would be good if you can swing it.

I think chat sessions would be a great thing to have, especially if, as others have said, the chat was retained for those that couldn't be involved. My interests are more in the mechanical issues since I actually run an FP car and not SM or SSM, even though a lot of the information doesn't directly apply, there is also a lot that does, and there is so much more experience and knowledge in the SM/SSM field with these cars than anywhere else.

Satire is primarily a literary genre or form, although in practice it can also be found in the graphic and performing arts. In satire, vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society itself, into improvement.[1] Although satire is usually meant to be funny, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon.

I like the idea. Work in health care, so daytime chatting not a possibility. Topic specific chats, such as noobie, or mid-pack plateau, tuning hints for 99,1.8,1.6, handling and set up basics, etc.

Thanks again,

Dave
