SCCA rules say OE hard top.
The seal must be intact and there can be NO gap under the top.

You're good without the rear clips. (I'm assuming you're talking about the 2 chrome square thingy that are sticking out at the rear bottom of the roof.
It's mostly use for alignement when installing the top on a street car.
Now, make sure this is a genuine Mazda top as it's the only one allowed by the rule. It should have a MAZDA DOT sticker somewhere (don't quote me on that though)...

Full disclosure: SMAC chairman, my opinions do not reflect anything to do with the SMAC unless specifically stated.

The thread started quite straight forward and took the normal tangent.
Hello all.
I found a cheap OEM hard top for my future Spec Miata, but it is missing the rear clips. Does this matter for Spec Miata? Are the four hard top brackets enough or should I worry about rigging up some rear brackets as well?
Colin
I have had the hard top gap and seal checked at least twice, I think three times. It must be run to be compliant. You should NOT see air under rear hardtop edge. Whether it is teched or checked is another story.
I only meant where it would originally meet with the side glass. As there is no side glass I figured why bother. The only time I need that gasket is when I put the racecar top on the street car during winter. The streetcar's owner is a whiner
Blowhard, I "had heard" early on in the start of the class that certain folks were peeling apart the top and removing inner materials. I "had heard" that the core was steel and worth a few pounds, and the top could be sewn back together without anyone the wiser. Seemed an awful lot of work for not much gain (4-5 lbs?) and it's sort of paddock lore so I don't know that anyone got burned on that.
Our team did get burned early on with the snugtop though, we got a dirty look and a stern talking to from an SCCA official before we understood anything about the class. That snugtop lives in California now, though, they frankly all belong at the bottom of a lake. They're crap.
