Is there a better way to remove the black adhesive from the doors (from heading the plastic liner of the door card)?

Google was not fruitful and neither was a search on this site.

As one site member previously learned, don't leave the pile of solvent covered rags under the door when you're cutting away and making lots of sparks.  It tends to light the garage on fire.

We sell a product called Citrol that is the best adhesive remover I have found. Works great for sticker glue and tire marks. And I have tried everything on the market.

I used 3M Adhiesive Remover and it is just a nasty job. if you can, trim the panel first and then clean up what remains.

I worked in adhesive remover with a stiff brush. That seemed to help quite a bit. Not a pleasant job, but I was expecting worse.

Yep, I just did four doors this way. The plastic putty knife keeps from scratching the paint and gets the bulk of the material off.

awesome. I leaned up against that crap when i was showing a friend the car yesterday. I the transferred it to my seat at the dinner table, my usual spot on the couch, and my white leather M5. I'm going to scrape it off and burn it out of spite.

On the bright side, got my USRP seat today!

I usually use about a half to a full can of chlorinated brake cleaner per door in conjunction with the plastic scraper and a ton of paper towels. Not quite as pungent as the gasoline, but still works with a bunch of elbow grease.

Seconding the chlorinated brake cleaner but good luck finding it at any 'neighborhood' parts store.  Most of the cans sold there are the non-chlorinated variety which I'm sure is due to some CA emissions law that the manufacturers don't want to create two different SKUs for!  But the solvent used in brake cleaner will attack the adhesive and permit the wiping off with rags/towels.

I would not, however, use the same product to remove the black marks from your M5 upholstery!   :panic:

Anyway....more and more I'm finding the need and benefit of buying the "fill & pressurize can" method of parts spraying being the most economical.  At even at a sale price of $3/can, a case of 12x 14oz cans is about double what a gallon of bulk brake cleaner costs....

I scraped it off my doors using a putty knife.  I soaked whatever was left with Goof Off (Acetone) and scraped some more with the putty knife and rubbed the remainder off with paper towels and rags.  Wasn't too hard.

Dave's recommendation of Citrol sounds interesting.  Hopefully won't have to do this job again anytime soon.

I'm pretty certain the person who developed that stuff is dead now. Because the poor fella in the factory, that had to clean the line it was packaged on, certainly must have snapped at some point.

I used Goop be Gone on the new doors and worked awesome. I thought I was going to have to put mire elbow grease than I did. On the plus side it doesn't damage paint either.
