Yes it has been approved by SCCA and NASA. The first race featuring this new Mazda MX5 class was the ARRC at Road Atlanta.

Reading the specs it would appear what I need to change from my Pro cup car are the shocks, and the ECU, since the ECU was remapped for the Pro series. Did I leave anything out? So how long do you think it will take to become a National class?
Since these cars cost more than the first SMs, and it took over 5 years for it to gain national status; I am going to say it will take at least 5 years, if at all.

I think it's a good idea but I can't see building one until it becomes a National class!

Did any make Sebring?
This is the car IMO. NASA has several classes, Pro with Playboy and not SM5. With a top, tire and shock change the car can run for a NASA Championship in PT, the 25 Hour of Thunderhill in E1 or E2, Pro in the Cup series and now SM5 in SCCA. If you add in there the Autocross and TT classes, TONS of opportunity for this car to be the rent here and race there platform!
Yes, I am building one, well Jason Hoover is lol.
