I made more HP under those rules than I will ever make in today's SM
Kinda neat looking back to those bygone days of crate motors and comp exhausts.
Sad to see how many of those names are no longer racing. And some no longer with us at all.

I don't need to read it, what really hurts is that the culture of blatant cheating under the guise of "prep" came right along with the rest from day one. Rules creep or not, I'll take the way things are today over what they were then. No doubt some people have stepped up their cheating to stay ahead, and others take advantage of the fact that memories are short, but if most people knew what so many cars were like for the first six years or so they would feel better about today.
You speak too wisely to part of the this mob. I wasn't there first hand but was told stories of the 2002-2006 days and the rampant cheating that was going on. The Show Room stock guys new every cheat in the book before the class was started and went to it right away. I have been told of cars that were dynoing in the 130 hp range that passed tech at Regionals. OH right,, there was no tech at Regionals and still isn't today. There is minimal tech at Majors which the SCCA expects us to spend thousands of $$$$ to attend but won't provide a class dedicated tech official for. Nobody crying about that though, they want a magic pill to make this all go away.
Steve,
I nominate you to be the new Head of Spec Miata Tech for the SCCA. You have no skin in this game that I know of and you have always been very transparent (Danny's favorite phrase). I would put $25 of every entry not just Majors in your pocket for you to fly around and spot check entries at random events. You point and at the end of the event the competitor tears it down and hands you the parts. Its your choice which events you fly to, show up and point. Train up a few others and you have duplicated yourself for the betterment of the class.

Yes but it cost WAY less to get there than it does today so even the back markers were "doin it"

Actually the rules creep to this point at least have been good. It certainly has removed the majority of the have from have nots. We over the years have learned a lot about these little cars and have made some very good adjustment to even the playing field and improve reliability.
This latest cluster is measuring the shit on a fleas ass. If we are down to this minute detail I guess most of the stuff that really maters is covered. That's a great thing in my mind.
Well said, gentlemen.
Seems much of the same peeps are the same place then and now. 2004, when I quit SM, seemed like a long time ago, all of a sudden its right here again.

Steve, a few pages ago you asked, is the red the 1.6 and I'm shure you decided it was, therefore you'd be correct.
