I am pleased to announce that registration will be open soon for the 2015 WMR Majors at MIS event to be held on 8/22, 8/23. I know its early but I wanted to give everyone a chance to check it out before registration opens in a couple of weeks. The event is visible to the public at www.wmr-scca.motorsportreg.com.
First an explanation……later registrations have been a cause of much anxiety across all regions. If regions have to guess about car counts, we are forced to overestimate on non fixed expenses (costs that fluctuate with car count such as dinners, driver gifts, trophies, etc.). Nobody wants to run out of food, gifts or have to mail trophies. These extra expenses cost the regions a lot of money. And if it costs the regions money, eventually, it will cost the driver corps more money. We at WMR have always been very aggressive about keeping our costs down (and, as a result, our entry fees) and this year is no exception.
As a result, we are adopting several new policies which we hope guides drivers to enter our events earlier. All of these efforts are taken to allow us to put on the best possible event while holding our costs down and, therefore, keeping your costs down too.
1. We have a non-schedule, schedule. This year we are letting the drivers determine the run order of our class groups. We know the class groups and we have a schedule. But the race group run order has yet to be determined. Here's the deal. Nobody likes to be first or last, right? The first two class groups that sign up 20 drivers get the much coveted "just before lunch" slots on Sunday. So, you and your buddies want to be able to leave earlier? Get them organized and sign up early. After the first two race groups have been determined, the remainder of the schedule will be filled in (the order of the remaining run groups will be selected by WMR so as not to replicate recent run orders). We will finalize the run order no later than 6/30 so that everyone knows their class's schedule well before the event.
2. We are adopting a feature of MSR called "deferred payment". Enter now, pay later. Here's how it works. When you register, you'll need to enter a credit card number. But that credit card will NOT be charged until 8/14 (close of online registration). Mail a check to the registrar and the card won't be charged at all (saving the $25 credit card fee). As always, we never deposit checks until after the event.
3. Two tiered entry structure. Enter on or before 6/30 and the entry is $475 after 6/30 it'll be $525.
4. Entry give away. Anyone entering this event on or before 8/7 is eligible to win an entry.

Dayle, is there anything that can be done about the really sharp entrance to the long straight. Have it something more like Daytona has there Roval. That turn is so sharp 1.6 cars are coming off that corner at 4200 rpm's in 2nd gear.

Hey Pat, let's remember all Spec Miatas are running the same gear ratio and the same diameter tires. So everybody is at the same RPM assuming they are all at the same MPH. This is not a 1.6 issue.

Hey Pat, let's remember all Spec Miatas are running the same gear ratio and the same diameter tires. So everybody is at the same RPM assuming they are all at the same MPH. This is not a 1.6 issue.

True Dave, but that sharp hair pin turn was nothing but trouble, when people blew the cones, (not that i would ever do a thing like that) it required workers to risk life and limb to put it back to race ready, it was just a bad setup IMO.
Lots of transmissions went bad last time, that was not the only 2nd gear corner but that one was the most important.
Looking forward to going back this year, i have a real conundrum that weekend, as waring my other hat of putting on PCA events for our PCA region, we have the first and only DE that weekend at Indy. They are using us as a test case to permit Club racing and DE events. It is possible that SCCA will be going to Indy in 2016 but no real plan has been formalized.
I suspect i will be racing if I can get the ducks in a row.

I was not there last year. I have no knowledge of how the track is designed. Just pointing out that the track is the same for all cars and all drivers. Not a 1.6 only issue.

We didnt race there last year but in 2013. I thought it was a very odd setup when I arrived---It was explained that they were concerned with cars coming very quickly off the road course and going right up the track into a wall. I had driven it previously in a viper and the hit at 110 plus was enough to loose traction and almost loop each time making the transition onto the oval... So the cones and thus the low speed turn is what happened... In general I enjoy the low speed second gear corners as many have never had to use second and I have been doing it my whole short road racing career coming from a very small road course...

We are eliminating the 90 degree right, hairpin left entrance to the oval. We will replace it with a chicane to the left. We are headed to MIS next month to lay it out and get some idea of exactly what it'll look like.
But please remember, ALL cars, not just SMs, have to deal with then entrance to the oval. Our biggest concern is the really fast wings n things. They asked for (and received) a very slow entrance to the loooooong straight (5500'). They didn't want to be a full song for so long that they'd barf motors. We'll do our best to make it fair and, most importantly, SAFE for everyone.

Dave, I'm sure not one 1.6 owner would bitch if we had equal torque to the 99 plus cars at 4,000 rpm. 1.6 torque at 4,000 rpm is 90 pound foot and a 99 plus at 4,000 rpm is 110 pound foot . That would be a 33% torque advantage for the 99 plus cars. Don't disagree one bit we all have the same gears. Would you like to know how many extra pounds the 1.6 must accelerate at 4,000 rpm compared to the 99 plus car.
Steve, you want to jump in here with your fix.

Great track, cant wait to race there again.

Frank (and others) are right.....NO track has these kind of speeds and drafting. We had a great pair of races in 2013 and I expect nothing less this time.
David, Why on Earth would you interpret a post that starts "Pat,...." with me making a comment on YOUR post. I don't give two shits what's what with 1.6 v 1.8, etc......have that discussion on another thread. Just like SM guys couldn't care less about air dam shape and grill screens (but we prod guys sure do).
As a side note, there are four SMs signed up so far and that leads the list of highest subscribed class. I know its early but lets get out the vote folks.

FA, FB, FC, FE, FM, P1, P2: 1
SM: 7
SRF, SRF3: 6
If the race were held tomorrow, Prod/GTL would be Group 3 and SM would be Group 4. But the SRF folks aren't too far behind. Do your colleagues a favor and enter as soon as you can to help insure a descent slot in the schedule.
