The side-view mirrors on my Classic Red (SU) are sunburned. I'm thinking of painting them yellow for a little color splash. Would prefer to go the rattle can route because of cost, but the car is still in pretty good shape, so finish & durability are still somewhat of concern to me. Would you go rattle can route and if so, what paint would you use? Primer - yea/nea?

I just rattle canned my hardtop and around my windshield. GIve it a good wet sand, clean it well, Rustoleum auto primer, then I used Rustoleum Bright Coat Metallic. Came out decent.
How do I fit this Ls7 into my mia.... nevermind

If the paint on the mirror is solid then just sand with a fine scotchbrite pad and paint. I've used some nice spray can "clears" that added that more finished look.

Yellow mirrors have been done to death. Covered in tiger fur - that's what you want!

OK - trying to be productive - here's a trick: sit your paint bomb in a sink/bucket with a few inches of hot water in it for about 5 minutes right before spraying. Heating the can makes the paint flow better.

Spray color, clear it and you're done...that's what I do. It'll only take a few race weekends before they'll look terrible again. I headed to HD Racing on my way home today for some more cans of the yellow plastic spray paint for my 2011 paint scheme. My mirrors are already yeller :^)

Yeah, I have seen a good number of yellow mirrors. But what other paint schemes work well with red?

Thanks for the warming tip!

Hum, do you think the tiger fur mirrors would clash with my leopard print hi-heel racing pumps?

See if you can get a piece of Yellow Vinyl from a graphics shop and "wrap" the mirror.

Better resistance to stone chips.

I have that on my headlights. Wrapping a compound curve is a PITA.

Denny and Others,

I'm totally suprised you let the original "mirrors being sunburned" comment go without a bunch of SPF comments! Silly Season must be over.

I usually rattle can my mirrors every couple of years. It doesn't take long for the stone chips to pot mark them pretty well. I've thought about a more durable finish, but in the end, I just repaint with cans.

Good tip on warming the paint though.
