We are about two weeks out for this event. We could still use a few more instructors for this event. If you instruct your cost for a 3 day 4 session per day weekend is $245.00. If you instruct you need to make sure you have a person to person communicator. Chatter box makes a unit that many use on motorcycles for two way communication. We are trying to get our hands on extras or we may have to share.

If your instructing, make an effort to see if you can find one.

If you are going they will want to know if you want a free garage, that sounds like a good idea but the garages there are either a large GP garage holding 4 cars (which are vary noisy) or the single garages. in ether case you cannot park your trailer in front of them, you have to driver your car to the garage, and park some place else.

Most of the Miata guys have elected to park our trailers in the paddock, and they are giving us our own section of the paddock to park together. We have about 15 Miatas coming.

They will have load in and tech inception at the track Thursday night. I think that starts around 4pm.

Instructors are self tech.

I will be posting more details over the nest few days.

It should be a fun weekend.

All the information you will need for this event will be found on clubregistration.net a few day before the event mid week go to the web site you will need to down load the schedule, instructor assignments, paddock and track map you need to bring these documents with you as they  will not provide them.

Tech, We are self tech but you need to download the form and them have someone in our run group sign (we tech each other) and bring it to tech, they will give you a sticker.

Arrival- Thursday

Gates open Thursday at 4pm for load in, gates close at 9 so be there early, get parked and get registered. When you come in they will give you a parking card for the Paddock that we are assigned, I am going to cone off an area for the Miata’s park efficiently as we have like 15 cars coming. You go to tech first then registration, the paddock map will tell you were to go.

Instructors, You will find your student assignment on line, They want you to contact your student before the event do an introduction. For those of you who have not done this you should get to know a little bit about your student so you know his skill level, car type, get his cell so you can find each other.

Try to get a communicator, We will have a few to lend but if you do not have one, you will have to work out a communication system with the student (not ideal) Be sure after the session you spend some time with them giving them feedback. You guys will have C students I understand so they will have some expertise. Be sure to make it to the instructor meeting to find out what is expected of you. You will only have one student.

Camping there will be no overnight camping but there is a lot across the street that you can park and camp no services, there is also a lot close by with hookups for 100.00 for the weekend. (this info in in the materials on line)

They don’t want you to run with window nets, we can pass any place but you must give and get a point, so no window net.

Racing suits optional, they do require long pants and long sleeve shirts, but if its real hot they may allow short sleeve shirts.

This track has tons of rules, if you have visitors coming be sure to read the materials as they will only credential gusts during certain hrs. your paddock access will be by a color coded mirror hanger.

The Track

The track I am told is abrasive, new pavement that has been diamond cut, I am told it likes old tires, fresh rubber will get ground down.

This track has two long straights and a big carousel, all of which leads into a tight 90 degree turn, so you will have a tight corner at the end of all straights.

The curbs are Plastic I am told, you can mow them over unless they are wet. The curbs are not aggressive or progressive,

No golf carts or scooters only pedal bikes.

Pets they say no pets but we will not enforce that rule I am told, the track owners like pets.

Tommy and I will be there early feel free to text or call with questions.

We had a good time at the Brickyard. That place is incredible. The facilities are like no other track that i have been to, maybe COTA is in that ball park.

The road course will be fun to drive. it has tons of grip and its relatively safe, lots of runoff. its not extremely wide in the infield in a few corners.

We are already talking to Indy about next year. We are looking into doing this event under our racing insurance so we can have race practice, meaning no requirement for a point by. To early to know how it might shape up. But to my knowledge our little group is the only group with access.

It was fun hanging out the the Leprechaun, Tom Brown and son Tyler, also Lunatic Lamb, I think we effectively cleared out the hotel bar Friday night.

The track was fun to drive IMO.

Did this hold up to be true that it likes old tires?  Or is that top secret now? ;)

I will have to pull out the data But i did get into 5th gear in the front straight. On the back straight you would hit the limiter in 4th just before the brake zone, and sometimes not at all.

I would tell you but i would have to kill you. :)

Yes it was abrasive. We were allowed to walk the track. The pavement was diamond cut is the term they used, it also had a pattern that looked like someone took a drum with small nails in it and rolled the track, you could see a patter. In the wet there was no wet line it was all consistent. It has lots of grip wet or dry.

It was a great weekend minus the Saturday hangover (thanks Tom Brown!) - the track is very technical and rewards having the car on the edge with a good setup. Not really a HP track but it certainly won't hurt.

Craig Janssen rented a car from us and did a great job learning the track and the techniques I was coaching him on - he picked up 3 seconds after the first day and will have some new tricks to take back to the TX boys.

I'm actually looking forward to having the Runoffs at Indy - it should be a really good track to race on. Plenty of passing opportunities, a little drafting, and a lot of handling.

Thanks to Frank for helping organize the SM loonies. We definitely will need a SM run group next year....lots of P-cars parking it in the corners and blasting down the straights.
