Back in the old days of points/condensors and bias ply tires, I was told a trick to cure a noisey diff was to put a banana peel inside the housing before adding fluid. Somethings never change  :scratchchin:

 

My Dad told me that in Army basic training (WW2) they told him to eat one square inch of banana peel if he had diarrhea - but they never sent any bananas as provisions and the enemy wasn't providing any "locally".  They must have been putting them in all the Tiger tank transmissions to keep them from noisily revealing their position?
