No assumption, make the pop-up flush with even gaps and it becomes common sense.

You want to learn more about the NA 1.8 air intake search for Saul's posts on same subject. You may not need to beg and plead.

Common sense is a difficult thing to count on if you're worried about a protest.   But that's good news on the air intake.

For those curious about tech at the Championship Race, here is what was done:

Top 6 cars:

- Dyno & test for altered ECU

- Weights & plates

- alternator voltage (WOT)

- Fuel

- track width

- final drive ratio

- magnet on drive axle

- measure exhaust

- diff bushing

- weigh wheels

- tap on axles (check if hollow)

Top 5 cars:

- inspect cam sprocket timing

- whistle test

- remove exhaust - pay attention to downpipes heat shield.  suspect some people are reshaping downpipes and putting heat shield back on

Top 3 Cars:

- flywheel assembly weight

- intake manifold - weigh, measure, inspect walls including thickness

- Remove Head, valves, springs

   - inspect head gasket

   - weight and inspect valves - compare to OEM valves brought (back cutting, etc)

   - length and weight of valve spring

   - measure valve unshrouding

   - inspect intake and exhaust ports.  check for excessive shooting of short turn radius at plunge cut

   - cylinder bore

- remove cams and measure profile, check for coating

- remove and inspect intake and exhaust manifolds

    - inspect for porting or other alterations

   - if VVT, open the intake manifold and verify everything is operational

Common sense is a difficult thing to count on if you're worried about a protest.

I only continue because you always like to have the last word.

If one has the hood to body (fender) to spec, the hood to body (front bumper cover) to spec, have not massaged (illegal) any parts and the pop-up is flush with equal gaps at all four sides, that would be called to spec common sense.

Nuff on this subject

A reasonable interpretation might be that there is no spec for those gaps because... wait for it... there is no spec for those gaps.  Crazy talk, I know.

topgear, nice drive...why are there so many more 1.6's upfront out west vs here in the midwest?

Many drivers are starting out in cheap 1.6's, then instead of selling and buying an NB (which I feel is done more on the east coast), they are just dumping money into their 1.6, especially after the recent rule changes. This is the case for me, Justin Casey, and Nick Sommers.

I felt I was a little down on power, especially compared to Tristan's VVT, but Nick's was much quicker in a straight line than my car that weekend, so I am hoping he will upload his footage to see acceleration differences between a very fast VVT and a very fast 1.6. The 1.6 and VVT weren't that different in constant load corners, but the 1.6 was visibly faster through aggressive/agile corners like Phil Hill and the Bus Stop at Buttonwillow, which is what helped even out the acceleration difference (at least in my case). Again, hope Nick, Tristan, and Justin upload their footage so we can get a better perspective!
