Okay, so my trans tunnel notch interferes with my catalytic converter. I want to keep the car streetable (able to pass emissions...I've still got five years of tests to pass). What have others done to remount the cat.? Is there a different dimensioned cat. available aftermarket? Do others move the cat. farther downstream? Cutoff the flanges of the cat. and reweld to rotate the cat-body?

I'm okay with making mods between street and track config---including swapping street vs. track exhaust. I've ordered a cat. repacement pipe from mazdaspeed...just so I can get the car on the ground. But, I'm still looking for a solution that puts A cat. back into the exhaust system when in a street configuration.

I searched the old site, but didn't find anything useful.

I know that rally cars put the cat as far back as possible (towards the tail pipe.) There is plenty of room where the muffler used to be. I am sure you can weld a couple pipes/flanges to a cat and make a quick and easy way to get a cat in and out, right by the rear axle.
How do I fit this Ls7 into my mia.... nevermind

Why don't you keep your stock exhaust with the cat/muffler to pass emissions and put on a racing exhaust or are you doing SSM.

Why don't you keep your stock exhaust with the cat/muffler to pass emissions and put on a racing exhaust or are you doing SSM.

That's what he wants to do. ;) With the trans tunnel mod the cat doesn't fit.

How about just leaving the cat out and getting some type of O2 simulator to remove the code (for the street only). If your car doesnt throw a code they should not stick a sniffer in the tail pipe... at least I dont think they would on these cars. I know on my newer 2007 Mini Cooper that is the case.

On cars without obdII...they always do the sniffer...at least, round here.

I was thinking this afternoon that I will bolt the catalytic converter to the conversion pipe and cut and re weld the rear flange at the new end location.

Anyone see an issue with this approach?

I also have a 1992 and am in the same boat. I have the Mazdaspeed eliminator pipe and will need to get inspected in about 5 months. Keep us informed of what you find.
