I don't really keep up when I'm not in the market. But, something in the $150 range with at least 1GB of ram should be very usable. More video ram will get better performance. $$$ = performance up to about 300. After that more money doesn't really translate into usable capabilities. But, $150 is the sweet spot in the market.

I like nvidia, but it doesn't really matter.

Your processor ranks 432 on passmark. That won't have too much impact on graphics or gameplay when you are by yourself, but it will limit the number of cars you can render in a race event. You can adjust the draw distance to minimize this impact. It is usually only an issue on starts. Once the pack spreads out, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Caveat: I have a core i7 system with 4GB of ram, and a gtx 295. I don't have much experience with your processor or graphics card. Ymmv.

Don't go spend $150 on my advice alone... best to talk to someone else who has your processor and a good graphics card. So, you know what to expect after you get the new card.

Not a video expert but $150-300 should do it. http://www.anandtech...-the-250-market

My GTX 280 is 3 year old technology and works great.

See you on (the virtual) track!

Turn down the resolution, turn off the scenery, stands, crowds, etc. Put cars on low detail, turn all shadows off. That may get you max 80 fps with that card. You need every frame you can get atthat rate. Had one, replaced it after a couple of weeks.

You will be concentrating on your line not the clouds and trees.

Thanks Muda. Did all that, didn't help. I'm going to buy a new graphics card. Hopefully that'll do it.

If you have an LCD monitor....and don't have something very special...every frame above 60 fps is wasted. There are very few LCD monitors that refresh faster than 60 Hz. FPS is part of this puzzle, but it isn't EVERYTHING. The human vision system is more sensitive to CHANGES in frame rate than it is to absolute rate. You will enjoy a rock solid 60 fps, than something that varies from 60 - 90 fps based on level of detail. Some of the (trees and such) detail is useful for catching line marks...some graphics power goes into anti-aliasing which removes the jagged edges and generally makes it look more real, and is less distracting and visually taxing.

New vid card did the trick. Now I need a new excuse for why I can't do 2 laps without crashing...

I got a 1G Radeon vid card, don't remember the model no., cost $69 after rebate. There were dozens to chose from. Really happy to have that finished. Although others had the same vid card that I had without any issues, they're using smaller monitors.

dp, you are a driver, I'm pretty sure you can find a wide array of excuses for crashing.

Just had this toy arrive today, no chance to hotrod it yet, sitting at home waiting to download much iRacing goodness:

Figured I would bring this thread back since I'm going to be building a machine for i-racing....

Muda, no jokes on what I had to do in order to get a simulator setup.

Does anyone run iracing or any other simulator on an LCD TV? I live in an apartment, and can't really make the space for a permanent set up. If so, any video card recomendations? Actuall, I'll take all the recommendations I can get....I'm building a new desktop basically to edit Go Pro HD video and practice with iracing.

Thanks in advance,

Vick

Core i7
At least 6GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA 500 series with 1 GB or ATI not sure of the latest series
At least an 800 watt powers supply

A site like cyberpowerinc.com has decent setups for gaming and video edit starting around $799 for the tower. I started there and did small upgrades as needed. I now have 2 Nvidia GTX 460 in SLI with triple screen monitors! Hope this helps feel free to PM me for specific questions or post them here for future reference. Later.
