Good advice from a guy who's probably seen it all or most of it.

I was blown away when I found out from a well-known SoCal kart builder how much money some parents are dropping to field their kid's kid-karts.

Good advice, especially that last part about living through your kid. He did however forget luck - it takes a tremendous amount of luck to actually make it.

Still, if your kid wants to go for it, let him. If he doesn't make it, just think of it as very expensive driving lessons for when he's 16.

Really good advise about living thru your kid ... When my boy was 10 , I asked him if he wanted to race , he said yes , we found a slightly used PTK Rotax MiniMax , joined the kart club and started the process.

My son liked going to the track , but he never even wanted to hang around while I prepped it , after a few months , he stopped asking me about going to the track ... The bottom line is that he just was not that interested ... At 1st I was disappointed , I had spent all this money , time invested , ect. ... Then I realized that he had just saved me thousands of dollars and if it was not his thing , it would be a disservice to him to push him into it.

I'm thankful I found out early.
