I wish it was easier to add a photo and/or copy excel into here. But anyways. At 800 drivers currently, I have calculated estimated Revenues as such:
Grand Total = $1,369,250
This will obviously go up as it has only been one day of registration, so the entry count will rise. Also there will most likely be an increase in number of test day participants when the open up multiple days for each driver and as drivers finalize their travel plans

Yeah, well this is what SCCA is pulling in. I heard a rumor that the cost for SCCA just to rent the facility was around $400-500k for the event. That figure is not including emergency services, wrecker services, additional Indy workers needed, insurance, and all the other costs associated. If I had to guess, I am sure Indianapolis Motor Speedway will probably be pulling in around $600k in revenue for the event.

I heard John Davison is making $75k just from his appearance fee alone. Then factor in his first place prize money and I don't see how Runoffs will turn a profit.
Full disclosure: SMAC chairman, my opinions do not reflect anything to do with the SMAC unless specifically stated.

No laughing Dude, minus $5,000.00 still equals $70,000.00 and that is seven figures.

Your name is Dewey and you don't even know your decimals?!? You should use your Dewey Decimal system at your local library and go find a book that will show you that decimals don't count towards your "figures"

Hey, ten cents is ten cents.
And 99 cents is 89 cents more than 10 cents. Denny, keep in mind, there's high rollers and the remainder of us.

Only four registered from the west
That pretty much sums up that people do not want to travel and our membership is predominately on the right side of the country. It will be interesting to see how many head west next year. I suspect it will only be 4-5 as well
2016 two traveled from the west to Mid Ohio
2015 only one from the west traveled to Daytona
2014 there were 8 of us Easterners that headed west
It appears very few if any are willing to take on the expense of cross country travel in addition to the already expensive race weekend costs and giving up 10-12 days plus travel in order to participate in these events.
If people don't travel to go to Laguna, Daytona and Indy.. They aren't travelling period.
I would like to do Sonoma, but it just makes even less sense than most Runoffs which are already a crazy cash dump.
I don't think looking at those numbers tells the story... The west has been beaten into Runoffs submission over 40 years of 4000 mile tows to eastern tracks, so it should be no big surprise that a lot of people don't make the trek. If you instead look at the percentage of people from the west in all classes that make the trip I think you will see SM is in the normal range - SM is not a big group in SPDiv. And for those that are within a days tow of the eastern based Runoffs its real easy to skip out when they have to make a big tow to the west. I don't know how anyone would be surprised by this?

If a PCA weekend is 450 as per Mayor Frank, the math is 125+ per day. For 11 days of testing and racing that works out to 1.375m. SCCA is putting on the test days, not the track. Which is close to the number I heard SCCA had agreed to. Which at $1125 per car works out to 1350 cars. Which takes into account no test day or parking fees. My guess would look like
Entry 1125 x 900 = $1m and change
If all test days sell out every group $687k
Parking fees, just a wild guess total $100k
Total SCCA intake should be under $2 million even if we add a significant positive fudge factor.
Add in insurance, employee salaries, travel expenses for employees, trophies, parties, worker give aways, and I would bet the event is close to a break even plus or minus.
Pretty big gamble if you ask me
