Solution to the problem is run STL Does the factory deck lid spoiler do anything real but look cool?
It really does look cool...
But someone said when they were testing, that it does break up the bad air wash coming off the back of the car... how they came up with that I have no frikkin clue. (and how they actually worded it with their techie terms I don't remember either).
No matter... I have one now, and figured I'd try it out. I need weight on my car, and it would be great to get it out in the back over the rear wheels anyway so it is worth a stab for me.
Funny side note... I was told that on the 3rd generation RX7 cars, the rear spoiler actually produced lift in the back of the car, making the rear end light . Lets just hope that these lip spoilers don't have the same effect.

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=402663I think Andy Bettencourt used one, maybe he could answer the question. He's on the Improved Touring forum a lot.
A good discussion on miata dot net

Google FlatOut Motorsports & e-mail or call Andy Bettencourt. In the past he was a very large part of the IT rules body.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I am still confused if the rear lip spoiler is legal on a 1.8 car in ITA if your car was never an R package. Can anyone shed some light on this?
You are aloud to use any "package" that the car was sold with. The R package cars were sold with the rear trunk spoiler and the rear under bumper (which I like to call a parachute), and the front lip spoiler so yes, you can. The 93 LE, and the 1.8 R packages were all sold with these on them as a package, so yes, you can put them on your car in IT.
Some people will say "but they were a dealer installed option" and the answer to that is yes, they were ALSO a dealer installed option. But the package that had these parts included was a FACTORY package. Now, these parts MAY have been installed by the dealer on delivery, but that has nothing to do with wether you can have them on the car for IT or not.

Dealer installed or limited
production front/rear spoilers/air dams/wings are prohibited.
I think limited production is the key word.
Write a letter to CRB for clarification.

The R package was not a special/limited production. It was a $1500 package option like the A, B, C, and M Editions. There were only a low number of R package cars sold not because the package was limited to a specific number, but because that is how many were ordered from the dealer. The product (spoilers) were offered on the 93LE cars and the R package cars from '94-97. They (the spoilers) were also offered as dealer installed options and were produced and sold by the dealers as mazda OEM parts from at least '93 well into '99 (absolutely not a limited production item).
You should look up the sales brochure for the Miatas, and you will see the R package listed as a trim line.

The supports are separate, they can be bought from RP or he can tell you where you can get something similar.

They are very strong, made out of aluminum honeycomb and carbon and kevlar... pretty much indestructible.
Understand that the SPLITTER may be indestructible but the stuff it's attached to is NOT. If you dig in, you will rip the mounts out or the mounting surface off the car.
Just be careful.

I have heard that. I am so frikkin poor right now... I can't afford the splitter, but when I can, I will.
First, it is motor, then finish paying for the race radios and fuel tower (for enduros) that I am buying...
