First a gripe: how come the $$ gasket set doesn't come with the o ring for the lower t-stat housing to head connection?

Seems the OEM o ring is not something the local dealer stocks and I'm not paying more $$ to have a $2 part shipped overnight. Can I use RTV in place of the o ring?

RTV will work fine. Just give it some time to cure before starting it up.

Never bought that o-ring. Red RTV will work fine.

Have found and used a comparable ring from the local hardware store for years with no bubbles, no troubles.
