Watched that a few times trying to figure out how he managed that. That corner is not sharp so I'm guessing he thought it would be fun to stomp the throttle and it got out from under him lol.

His first mistake was turning off the traction/stability control when he got in the car because as a capable driver in his mind, he doesn't need that crap.

"It's very easy to do as you go over that crest, and the traction control must have been turned off. So yeah, I felt — it wasn't really his fault. It's just such a bad corner. Like it's very easy to do."
Why is nobody at fault for their mistakes anymore...

Can you imagine how that GM employee driving the pace car is feeling or the $hit he is getting?

and well deserved. Can’t blame anyone but himself. The rear tires were spinning all the way into the wall. Next stop cars and coffee. Can you imagine how that GM employee driving the pace car is feeling or the $hit he is getting?

Mark Reuss, GM's top product development exec and a huge race fan and proponent of motorsports, was driving the car on the pace laps when it went wrong.

He has or had a SCCA license and is fully capable of driving it well---he like all of us just lost it---Really bad timing though.......
He drives thousands of miles at GM PG every year and has pushed for the development of these cars including the Camaro GT4.

I figure it is approximately 2-3 generations of "bad" parents, teachers, researchers, journalists, politicians, all helped along by Silicon Valley's contributions to society, such as Angry Birds, Candy Crush, ZuckerBook, TweetChat, SnapFace, InstaBrag, etc. ….???
I definitely want to live long enough to see how Matoy's kids turn out ….!!!

Is it my imagination or does are his tires smoking from wheelspin as he spins? And his eyes target fixate at the wall.

Looked like he lifted when he saw slow car in front, hit the bump simultaneously then tried to throttle steer out of the spin.

the guy made a mistake and crashed.. So have all of us at one point I dont see the need for all of the apologies and shame he seems to be feeling.. It happens. Not like he is bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein. i'm sure Sm doesn't give a s%$^ and he has gotten more publicity over that deal for GM than the entire season as pace car.

Yeah, I felt the same way (lift+bump). Looks like he is closing on the car pretty quick...a brief "oh crap" as the car comes into view, lift....followed by "oh, f*ck!". Looked like he was hand-over-hand on the wheel trying to turn into it...never quite got caught up.

Yeah, but we aren't EVPs at GM in the new GM jewel...and a certified test driver. and, we don't do it on national TV.
I'm pretty sure I'd be embarrassed in the same circumstances. Might also be a combination of the High associated with driving the pacecar at an indy race...followed by the immediate LOW.
But, no one ever lives down spinning on the outlap! I'm sure his driving buddies won't give him much slack. Didn't someone round these parts do that recently?
