Really, only 712 total?? I’m thinking that’s a bigger story. There are what, 12 HST? That should account for 350 entries in even a half decent year. How many Majors were there with what average car count?

But OK, I’ll play. Other than the left cost I’m thinking less than 5% so I’m going with 31-40.

Edit: I’ll leave my vote but I was mostly thinking 1.6. With the NA 1.8s it may have approached 50.

Looks like 391 super tour or about 35 per event average.

707 Entries Super Tour and Majors (Sorry Jim, it's what SCCA has posted)

33 Race weekends with an average of 21 entries per race weekend

20 Race weekends had less than the 21 entries average

For info/data Regional 652 entries (I get it, there could be Majors/Super Tour entries within)

Well, finish the job! Of your 20 under 21 entries I gather 0 are HST so that makes roughly 14 entries per “Major”. So I’d say HST is doing pretty well given that they require a larger commitment and won’t attract as many casual racers, but it is at the expense of most other so-called majors. Not unexpected but further evidence that three tiers of competition has spread the class too thin.

Well, finish the job!

You asked therefore I'll finish the job. There are a total of 11 Hoosier Super Tour events with 2 races per event. I corrected my first post from number from races to number of weekends. Do whatever math you like to suite yourself.

Bench - thought you might like to read below

Have no idea on the poll numbers above, but I have raced an NA 1.8 the last couple of weekends, and all I can say is that a good car is competitive. Put the car on pole first time out at Road Atlanta, and on the front row with Carter at Daytona (and yes I know that is not a great reference due to the draft and team work required)

At Road Atlanta I was able to hang and compete for the win with MacTutus in his new car, and at Daytona this weekend, yesterday, after getting knocked off in T1, I was able to drive back from 35th to 9th, and run times similar to the front runners, despite having a damaged car with left tire rubbing on the fender, and not having team mates.

Doesn't punch out the corners as well as a VVT but it runs on really well at top end. Have a feeling that the NA1.8 can be a good weapon at VIR

Danny, thanks for the info, while at the same time I said nothing about NA's or NB's other than entry numbers.

If you ever run a 1.6L car please make a post like this. The insights are nice to hear.

So today at Daytona, I was able to win both races with the NA1.8 against some pretty competitive drivers. Now Daytona is not a great reference as it is so draft and team-mate dependent, but it still shows that an NA1.8 can compete at pure HP tracks. I am sure Michael Carter, Preston Pardus and Tyler Gonzales will agree that the NA legs on this particular Rossini car are pretty stout, but coming off the corners it is a tiny smidge off from the really good cars. All in all I would say the NA1.8 could potentially win several HST events (ones with longer straights) and potentially even the runoffs at track like VIR and Road America in the near future.

My advice, if you have one of these cars, don't give up on it, I think it could be a real weapon, and of course it is a kick ass car in Vintage racing right now

Good to hear.  Question though...

Doesn't the rev limiter come into play at Daytona in the draft and doesn't the 6900 RPM rev limiter on the NA1.8 limit top speed in the draft by about 2 MPH? Obviously that's not a factor at other tracks.

This weekend was really hot, so only on an EXCEPTIONAL flyer with the two cars hooked up immediately on the exit of the bus stop did I get to the rev limiter. In the 4 test day sessions I never got there, and only on one lap with Pardus and 2 laps with Carter did I get to the limiter, just past the start finish line. So it wasn't an issue for me. In colder weather it could be an issue, but Daytona is the only track that I have ever been to that I have got to the limiter in 5th.

I noticed I was shifting a little earlier than Pardus (VVT) and about the same time as Carter (99) but I was shifting by sound as the car doesn't have shift lights, so I might have been shifting a little early.

Danny....  That looks like the same car Rossini ran at the Heacock Classic (VIR SVRA) last year.. Super nice build..    Does this mean you will be running that car at SVRA event at VIR in the a few weeks prior to run-offs?

The answer is 51 or roughly 7%..

Is it time we stop catering to 7% of the class at the Super tour level?

I think it is.

2020 Supertours and runoffs should be

01-05  Miata   2350 std weight and 2365 over bore with no restrictor plate

99-00 Miata    2325 std weight/2350 over bore with 47 mm plate ( or whatever determined to keep same parity to VVT we have now)

90--97 cars regional only

The cars will be much faster, more fun to drive and more attractive to new members.

With the coming spec mx5 class, we will need to keep our class moving forward and keep SM strong.

I'm sure many wont like this, but it is time!

I think this makes a lot of sense, but rather than relegating the NA cars to regional only, allow them to run in their own class IF they get enough cars.  They can be in the same run group, so we aren't messing with schedules, but they would be a separate class.  This works well with SRF/SRF3 and  the SMSE class works well in the Southeast.

Also, if we run the NB cars at a lower weight with no restrictor plate at the HST and Runoff level, we should run them in the same config for all races.

Jim, while I understand your logic, it does create a problem for those of us that run an NA.  Here in the Midwest, as an example, there is no real Regional racing.  It means that if we don't run a vintage series, which I do, you then have an obsolete car.

It will take away options for many.
