I'm removing parts from a parts car and plan on removing the steering rack to keep as a spare.  The steering rack on the parts car is a power steering unit.  My car has a manual rack.

Are the steering columns themselves interchangeable?  Do you need to pair the PS rack with the PS column?

Thanks.

Mazda only lists one set of steering column parts (intermediate shaft 32-90B, 32-850 steering joint, 32-100 energy absorber shaft). In particular 32-850 is the steering joint the part that connects between the column and the rack input shaft, there is only one version.

It is common to swap just the rack, inclusive of tie rods. I’m not sure on all years but the inboard end of the tie rod is different between manual and power.

PS: NA and NB racks, columns, and subframes are not compatible (not that anyone would ever run such a thing).
