If anyone can tell me which repair and maintenance guide I need to buy to work on a 1990 SM, I would really appreciate it. It seems like from brand to brand, there are differences.
Thanks, and keep the laughter to a minimum, I could be on the track with you one day:)

I have the FSM, the Enthusiast's, and a Haynes. You can download the 1.6L FSM from my downloads page (see the link below). The FSM is comprehensive. Opinions differ, but I think it is the best content-wise. The only issue is that its electronic...I don't keep a computer in the shop. I have printed needed sections and taken them with me, though.
Most of the time, I use the Enthusiast's manual for daily stuff in the shop. The only thing I don't like about it, is that it embeds the torque specs inline in the steps. The Haynes manual lists all the torque specs in the front of each section. Much easier to quickly torque everything. then, again now that I've made my own torque sheet...that's not much of an issue.
So, I guess I'm saying download the FSM from my site, and buy the Enthusiast's manual.

I keep a copy of the FSM on a key and use a beater laptop in the shop. I've got an AIM EVO3 and it predates the current download to a key so I have to use a full computer to dump it. I didn't seem right at first to use the computer in the shop for the manual but I've gotten used to it and its pretty handy. Plus I can get on Mazdaspeed and look parts up right in the shop. I've toyed with the idea of getting a little netbook for that app but going into the sixth decade the old eyes aren't quite what they used to be.

Bad Rusty, if your racing SCCA they by rule require you to have a FSM at events with you.
