Try bringing the revs up in a dark garage to see if there are any sparks flashing around the coils.

Update, I think I got it.

I checked the coil in the dark and it was fine.
Ordered the cam and crank sensor and received them today.
Replaced the cam, same problem.
Replaced the crank and it wouldn't start.
Checked the manual for gap spacing, still no start.

Turns out my transponder was "T"ed into my crank sensor wire.
The t was the kind that cuts into the insulation and then makes contact.
So the white wire was broken about 1/4" from the crank sensor connector, not on the sensor side.

I temp wired it together and it runs fine now.

This part of the cable is part of the main harness, correct?
My choices are to repair this area or replace the whole car harness?

Glad you found the problem. Keep those other sensors as spares. If you ask Dave W. he'd probably tell you to replace the harness but reparing that area would certainly work.

That wire should be part of the engine/injector harness. Not the main car harness. Contact one of the used parts vendors and get a harness, it is not that difficult to change. Save your old one as a spare

Thanks Dave,
The engine/injector harness, got it.

Maybe I should start a new thread but...
Were should I wire my transponder?

As long as were on the subject. Thoughts?
I have a dim left head light and a super strong right one.
Both light bulbs have been replaces

And my reverse lights come on when I turn the ignition one click up to accessory.
Is this supposed to be like that?

I mount my transponders in the back. behind each rear wheel is an inner fender that sticks down. I mount the transponder on the inboard side of the inner fender. Then run the wire directly to the battery.

The front of the car goes just as fast as the back, so lap times are not effected

???? Door to door finish...don't you want your transponder near front? What am I missing?

Hey Thanks Ron,
You did cross my mind.
I do have a guy in Hayward I get stuff from and should have it.
He's on CL, maybe you've seen him.

Everything runs strong now.
I just have to unMickeyMouse it.(technical term)

Yes, my transponder is in front, was thinking the same thing.
But isn't Dave on the Board?
If I wire it to the battery how do I turn if off?
Not sure if I want to move my transponder decal in back,
screws up my whole decal scheme. :D

If it's that close you'll get hand scored.

As for tapping directly to the battery the current draw is low, 12 mA and it will run down to 8 volts. Until last season I'd been using the rechargeable transponders. Way easier to mount it and forget about it and not worry about if it's charged enough for the race. We were able to do our own electrical systems and harnesses and I put it in the main fuse block. If the main power (kill) was switch was on it was powered.

Hey Johnny,

I wired ours to the underhood data link connecter, it has both power and ground that works off the key. So if key is off so is the transponder.

I mounted mine (cliff too) up front near the driver front tire just behind where the air bag sensor used to be. Ran the wire up through the fender using existing holes and used the air bag wire for switched power. Easy peasy :)
