When the FRS/BRZ collaboration was unveiled the first thing I thought was “this could be the next big spec class”. Then I learned who contributed the engine.

BTW, just me or does the 2022 FRS/BRZ look like a minor makeover of a 1994 Celica GT?

 

Not sure I follow.  Subaru makes a good motor.

I've owned 4 EV's, but racing has to have certain smells and sounds to appeal to me.  So, EV racing interests me exactly zero, max.  And BOP will be impossible with closed software.  Guess you can add ballast and adjust tire size.

I think the class will look quite different on the kind of time scales you're thinking about... did you watch Lemans this year? The future of racing is hydrogen. From the top of racing down it will eventually compete and take over as everything becomes vintage. Fighting time is the racing way though, i suppose. Personally, I'm going to start SM-H in about 2040 with hydrogen swapped NAs, start your pre-prder for the rebirth of SM today! Sure the ever growing expense of original high quality parts and racing tech in general won't help but I think the aging crowd of corner workers/volunteers is probably the biggest threat in the long future. The cars will be there in some form, but a community around it im not so sure as fewer care/understand the point of coming to the club races, especially if society continues to atomize, as the real fun of club racing is connection (to your car, to the track, to the people/club).

 

I do agree with what you said about the young racers and relative chances of 'sexy' opportunities to win. I'm veryyy lucky to have some in both classes. It is like a dream

 

Ultimately, just try and enjoy the present moment. Like if you worried this much while racing you'd forget to brake for T1 LOL.

I don’t know about their EVs but never heard anything good about the longevity of their engines under track conditions.

Many of the Subaru engines have plastic timing belt pulleys.. If they are hit anywhere.. They break and bend everything

So... I built a t4 FRS and it is fantasticly fun to drive. Think about a miata with an extra 50 HP.  The motor is incredibly fragile however.  Blew one up already but some of that is related to an oil line failure.  I'd also add the motor is very hard to work on...  at least 30 minutes plus to replace a single coil pack.   That being said I think it has potential.... this is a Mazda forum  I know.

Disappointing to hear - I was really hoping that they were robust, given that they sell a factory racing version in Europe.  Was also thinking of building one to the Spec 86 rules.

I'd love nothing more than to not smell racing gas or hear the 1000 bee's screaming down the straight. All you need to smell and hear are the tires.

speak for yourself, i would love to see 1000 SMs on a track and am a proud member of a wild bee symphony. I agree the tires smell good too
