Alignment jig and first alignment

Posted by Tom Hampton , 06-14-2012 - - - - - - · 4,037 views

So, I made my own alignment jig.  Its a clone of a well known string setup.  These brackets hang off of the inner trunk and hood lips.  Their whole point is to hang a bar down at axel height at the front and rear of the car.  The bars are designed to have grooves on the ends to hold a string.  The grooves are exactly the same width in the front and rear...

New Intake

Posted by Tom Hampton , 06-10-2012 - - - - - - · 2,796 views

So, its been a very long time since I had anything to post!  Months and months.  Unfortunately, this same dearth in posts represents a similar dearth in actual activity on or with the racecar.  I won’t bore you with the excuses…lots of work related things.   Anyway, I bought an SP Induction Systems SPX2 intake, and finally got a chance to install it....

MSR – Cresson : Coaching

Posted by Tom Hampton , 01-14-2012 - - - - - - · 12,068 views

A last minute opportunity to drive at MSRC came up for January 2nd, 2012.  I was able to go, and it was an “educational” day.  Another friend had given me some of his old tires.  The story of the day is really a separate post that should include video footage of the “incidents”.  But, suffice it to say that I “fought” the new tires until I finally flat-sp...

MSR Cresson track Day – Apex Driving Academy – 1/2/2012

Posted by Tom Hampton , 01-11-2012 - - - - - - · 4,515 views

Yesterday was my first time in my own car on any R-compound tires (RA-1 takeoffs). It wasn’t pretty: one 4-wheel off — rear end tried to come around, saved it…realized I wasn’t going to keep it on track, let it run straight into flat grassy area (outside of wagonwheel)one 2-wheel off (the front two on wrong side of the apex curbing) — turned in too abrupt...

Real Decals

Posted by Tom Hampton , 12-18-2011 - - - - - - · 2,810 views

She is done.  Again, Chris comes H. through.  He did a great job cutting my vinyl for me.  I understand he had a couple hicups with his new cutter and the large rolls of black and silver.  I sent him the files to be cut last Friday, he had them cut by Wednesday.  I’ve been putting them on for the last two days. I used Window cleaner to let them slide, but...

Decals

I seem to have contracted a cold over Thanksgiving, so I’m laying low this weekend.  I figured I might as well start working on the graphics set for the car, until I feel human again.  I’ve been using Inkscape (inkscape.org) to do all the decal designs.  Its an awesome tool for vector graphics work (and free to boot).http://www.tomhampton.info/wp-content/...

5 Beers

Posted by Tom Hampton , 12-03-2011 - - - - - - · 2,406 views

So, I decided that I wanted to brew some test beers to see how different types of Malt taste.  I started by making a beer base for a Pale Ale.  Then I divided the base into 5 separate batches and added 1/2 lb of 4 different types of specialty grains:    Munich 20HoneyCrystal 40Chocolate http://www.tomhampto...10079_thumb....

2 year old Porter (Can it still be good?)

Posted by Tom Hampton , 10-23-2011 - - - - - - · 2,531 views

http://www.tomhampto...70_thumb.jpg  2 years ago (today) I brewed a basic Robust Porter recipe. It was going to be the starting point for some attempts at toasting my own malts…in particular a smoked brown malt. After reading Ray Daniels descriptions of original porter, I’d decided I wanted to try and figure it out. An...

Beer Making Day!

Posted by Tom Hampton , 10-08-2011 - - - - - - · 2,957 views

Okay, its not Miata related, but who doesn't like a little beer?  Its been a while since I made a batch of beer!  I decided to make a batch of basic Porter, today.  I use BeerSmith (www.beersmith.com ) 1.4 for my recipe design.  The recipe below is a pretty middle of the road modern Porter, just to get my feet wet again.  Eventually, I want to start w...
