Satire is primarily a literary genre or form, although in practice it can also be found in the graphic and performing arts. In satire, vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society itself, into improvement.[1] Although satire is usually meant to be funny, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon.

Standing starts are fun! But how can you do it with a split field?

I don't know exaclty how it works, but here at NASA NorCal races, there are sometimes up to 3 starts in one race session. One of them (Spec E30) is standing with a rolling i believe before and after.

I've only watched this madness ensue...never participated in it...

all i know is it IS possible

Having done a few Grand Am starts, I didn't like them. Too much bumper cars until the S/F and the sooner the starter throws the flag, the worse it is. It's a nice format for the two cars on the front row.

How many times have you actually seen this done. Sure it happens sometimes... but at TWS last I was on the rev limiter in 4th BEFORE they dropped the flag. That was from 6 rows back. For whatever reason, officials seem hesitant to wave off the start.

Dejavu anyone :D

Drivers who leave 1.5-2 car lengths should be penalized...because when they guess wrong and have to jam the brakes to avoid the obvious jump or hard bumpdraft, the guys behind them get really screwed! :( And when they guess right you have 4 wide in turn 1 :o

Only four? Up here we pretty much count on five, and if you left two car-lengths there would be two cars in there.

2 weeks ago in a NASA race at Summit Point our race, with 2 separate groups, did not see the green flag until after the third pace lap.

Good for NASA - sends the right message - way too much jumping of starts, sometimes from the front, but normally from a few rows back.

Also its amazing how many that race dont have someone on the radio giving them the green flag call. Big disadvantage IMO

As someone who also corner-works I voted for SCCA style. Under the Grand-Am style in a medium to large field it would only take 2-3 pass violations before the starter (and whatever corner workers are helping him/her) would start to become overwhelmed and lose track of what cars were passing too soon. Some drivers would get caught and some would get away with it. Not really fair. Corner-workers located at turn stations upstream or downstream might not be able to help much either since the angle of view is so flat they couldn't get car numbers. Video replay would be great but the tracks I've been to don't have the resources to take videos of the starts.

Just curious but how often do you hear "Green, Green, Green" BEFORE you actually see it? I have only had radios for 4 races.

I voted for scca start but thats because I think its the correct way to do it(green flag means racing) but just like we are finding in ALL of these SCCA rule threads, the rules only work if they are enforced.

The advantage comes when your slow like me and youre still exciting a corner when the green flag drops and you cant see a corner station

Kyle, Even when you are near the front, you can end up being unsighted from the start flag by the car in front of you, so sometimes the call comes before you see the green.

When you are on the front row they should happen simultaneously :D

Fair enough, When are the flaggers throwing the green in your regions? We had an issue recently where the front row seemed to get hosed because they were almost under the flag stand before they threw the green. The rest of the field was on top them right away.
